I am in serious need of help setting an old Adaptec controller's
SCSI number. Rumor has it you've seen this beast before.
Coud you help me out – like is there a jumper on this thing? A
trace to cut? Or what?
Thanks ever so…

If it is an Adaptec 4000 or 4070, then the ID is set with jumpers AB, CD,
and EF. These form a binary switch.

Thanks for the reply… I figured out the ID jumpers on the
Adaptec board with some help from Rick and David in CO. However, I also
had to remove the term/packs from the Advantage board before it would
recognize ANYTHING attached to the pass-through.
Documentation included with the Advantage 2000 board could be a
little more specific concerning this operation.
Thanks for assisting though! 😉

Charles,
Ref previous messages also – are you talking about your AM-24 drive ? The
Adaptec "converter" inside the drive can be selected to be any SCSI ID
number 0-7 via some jumpers on the board, the AM-24 case connects a set of
DIP switches to this jumper via an internal cable. In addition the ACB-4000
(if that is what you've got) is capable of controlling TWO ST-506 (IBM
type) harddrives as two different "logical units" on the SAME SCSI ID. I
believe these are just LUN 0 and 1. DIfferent SCSI/controller software
uses different ways of addressing the "extra" units (since SCSI only wants
IDs 0-7), most use pseudo-IDs 8-15 for the "extra" Logical Unit #1 of each
SCSI ID…
Your question implies that the Adaptec controller has a fixed "SCSI number"
which is not the case if I am guessing at your actual configuration(s)…
