ATonce 286 card ?

Folks,
Has anyone heard ANYTHING about a product called ATonce ? It is
apparently a British-made 286/PC-AT emulation for AMI. I saw a brief blurb
in a British mag at my dealer. Showed a 3-chip card (!), one is the '286,
one is the 68000 removed from the motherboard (soze the ATonce can plug
into the socket), and the other is, presumably, one heck of a an ASICs/VLSI
beast… I believe they were claiming 12Mhz 80286, support for AMI
harddrives. Q. video support (e.g. CGA ? VGA) and Q. if it multitasks like
bridgeboard/Janus. But at 499 POUNDS list (whats that ? $600 US) it looked
REAL INTERESTING ! no?

There is an ad in Dec AmigaWorld for Atonce. List price is $398.00. Says
it works in Amiga 500 or 2000 Just replace 68000 with this thing. Runs at
7.2 Mhz but says it runs as a task!! Supports hard drives, CGA MicroSoft
mouse. Norton SI rating 6.1 Sounds too good to be true. Where do I sign?
Bet we will be hearing a lot about this if it is for real!

Sweedack on "where do I sign…". Although I have a 1000 (!) I'm used to
the "500 or 2000" nomenclature meaning "any Amiga". << Can anyone verify
this ? >>.
At $400 for the AT-clone and about $400 for the Mac, mebbe $1K for a nice
A500 system thats a HECK OF A SYSTEM for $1800 (!).
-course I wuz hoping for VGA :-> greedy is as greedy was. Hard-drive
supprort Q. will be VERY interesting w.r.t. CD-ROMs, for instance.

I got Email from Atone this morning and they say that it will be released
Dec 1, 1990. More info will be coming later. Sounds like a fun product.
The Vortex ATonce board is real enough but you have some facts wrong! I
represent Vortex who are a German Company that manufacture a wide range of
Amiga and ST products in Europe. ATonce is a 286 emulator for the Amiga
(and ST) that will be available in the US Dec 1. It is an internal plug in
board for the A500 (and 2000 with adapter) and it will cost $398 LIST. The
the unit comes with an original Motorola 68000 as well as our own silicon
and a CMOS Intel 80286 clocked at the Amiga's 7.2 Mhz clock speed. ATonce
will run as a task within Amiga DOS and is 99.9% compatible (Yes it will
run W3) Video emulations are CGA + several high res mono modes in
interlace. All AT features are supported like parallel & serial ports,
mouse, hard disks {clock etc.

What would be nice to know if you they have any plans for a A3000 version,
or if it works when people have an accelerator active. It looks like a
nice product but I see a problem with it an anyone who want to use products
like AdSpeed from ICD, and simillar products any plans to take these
product into account? Also any plans to let A2000 owners to use thier PC
Slots?

I have a 2000 with a 68010 chip installed and was curious as to whether I
would lose this chip with its small speed improvements with your 2000
adaptor board. I am interested but maybe not enough to lose my "cheap"
accelerator!

Does it work with the Amiga 1000? Could it be modified to work? (It looks
like the shape is wrong from the picture, but could it work electronically
if it would fit?)
Can VGA and S-VGA be run using plug in graphics boards? Will this work with
Amiga accelerator boards? Is there any way to speed up the clock?

Just where do you propose to plug in graphics cards? As I understand it,
this gizmo fits into the A501 slot with not a lot of room to spare.

There is supposed to be some type of adapter to allow this to work in a
2000. I'm wondering if I could then use the XT/AT compatible slots in the

Check the December AmigaWorld. The ATonce board doesn't go in the 501 slot,
it replaces the 68000 on the motherboard. Looks neat though, if the ad copy
is correct.
