Has anybody with an A3000 found a directory utility that runs under
WB2.0? I have tried SID and Utility Master and both crash with 2.0
Directory Opus by Jonathan Potter, a commercial dir util works just fine
under 2.0. And it's a great util, *much* better than SID which in turn was
much better than Diskmaster, IMHO. It's has alot of SID's features, like
identifying a file and automatically showing IFF's or playing sound files,
reading textfiles, even those crunched with ppmore- so no need to highlight
a file and then "play" or "hear" or "read". It is also very
user-configurable, with most it's buttons and pull-down menus open for
whatever you want to assign them. All-in-all an outstanding piece of work!

program.

Well not knowing what changes will be made to SID hard to say, but what
DirOpus has going for it (and I'm just another user) is the configurability
to the user. You can program in 12 different volume names accessed through
the RMB, 6 gadget buttons (in addition to the existing ones that are pretty
much identical to SID's), *plus* 3 full pull-down menus each of which are
configurable for sending whatever arguments to multiple files, before,
after, opening an output window, etc! It allows you to use your own text
viewer, editor, etc., or use the built-in ones, automatically detects
ppmore files and has yet to crash on me. In fact, I had used a modified
Cando application (like their PowerPanel project) that stayed on my WB
screen to run all my program from harddrive, but DirOpus does just as well.
Up until DirOpus SID seemed great, and who knows- 2.0 could implement even
more features…
Is DirOpus a commercial program? I've been thinking of sending in my
shareware fee for SID(suuuurrre, they say) but Opus sounds very good.

I found a demo version of Opus in the LIB here on CIS under DOPUSD.LZH It
looks to be shareware ($50 Australian). The demo runs OK with WB2.0
Yes DirOpus is commercial and as I've said, an outstanding dir util- at
least to me it's a step ahead of SID which was an improvement over
Diskmaster.
SID 2.0 when it is released will be compatable with 2.0 of the OS.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for it.
My program, PowerPlatform works just fine under 2.0. It's shareware but
there is a fully functional version here in the libraries somewhere.
PowerPlatform requires ARexx, but if you have 2.0 you have ARexx. It is
very configurable, you use ARexx to define every function button as well as
the PowerPlatform menu bar. You can launch any WorkBench, CLI or ARexx
program from within PowerPlatform.
