Bluescreen questions..
15 messages in this thread
Hi People!
I'm trying to find some good filtering software
to key out blue/greenscreen backdrops.
Ani Pro's colour separation is a little too inflexible
for me as the range of colours to remove changes from
frame to frame and I have a MASSIVE amount of frames
to get through – around 9000 (that's right, nine thousand)
Is this a feature that might be present in Ani Studio?
Failing this, is there dedicated software/hardware which
could help me.
I understand Ultimatte allows realtime removal of bluescreen
to superimpose a character on a preferred backdrop. Can any
Ultimatte experts tell me if it can be used to store frames
with the blue filtered out? If it CAN do this, assuming it
filters all the blue to color 0 (black), what happens when
pure black is present within the subject being filmed??
Is there another forum I should be addressing these questions
to??
Thanks for any suggestions,

You might check PhotoMorph from North Coast Software 603-664-6000. It works on
AVI and FLC, does blue screening, chroma keying, and alpha masking, plus more.
Lists for around US$190 but they are running a special right now.
I haven't used it myself yet.

Ted,
Photomorph sounds pretty cool, was that $190?
If so – that's pretty cheap…
Thanks,

Yes, $190 for PMorph2, and I think there is a special price with extras still
going on.

Andy,
I had a feeling that Gus Grubba write some software to do this. Probably an
.ixp for use in 3ds' video post. Contact the Greg Pyros or Gus for more info.
The best system I've seen is called Joleo (spelling?) and runs on SGI hardware.
The results are spectacular – it can even seperate smoke from the background
with a good alpha. Probably rather expensive, though.
Thanks Martin,
I'll get in touch with Greg re: the .ixp

P.S. Do you have any info on the courses being held at Siggraph
this year??
Andy,

I haven't received any info yet, sorry.
Adobe Premier will alow you to do this. I think Razor Pro will also. I hope so
as I have it on order. 🙂

We wrote an IPAS to do that last year, called CKEY_I.IXP. You can see the
interface screen on page 13 of the Autodesk Multimedia Partner Catalog that
shipped with Release 4.
It will key any color, in fact can be set up for two colors to key out. It
creates an alpha mask from the file provided. We used it in a 20 second live
morphing sequence which was composited in video post, works great!

Greg,
So the rumours are true – you ARE the man!!!
Could you mail me details of CKEY_I.IXP please??
A million thanks!

Actually, I believe the rumour states that I am THE man instead I AM the man.

I'll get you the details on the ChromaKey IPAS routine.

Andy,
In regards to your bluescreen question, I have found Razor Pro an
excellent tool in "keying out" your bluescreen color. It has controls to
select a range of color and then allows you to blend the edges with your new
background. If you want additional info. give me a call at (503) 292-5119.
