OK Jacquie, I see two possibilities. First one. We have Jr-Comm set up for 2400 baud. If you are not using 2400 baud, or are not calling a 2400 baud CompuServe number, you will have to adjust the baud rate of the program. (Select the Serial option on the pulldown menus, click on the appropriate circle for the modem speed you are using, then resave the defaults.) Second one. I just tried logging on with JR-Comm myself. After hitting the control-C, I got garble, but I went ahead and typed in my UserID, and Password where they normally would go. As soon as that was done, everything came out fine. I tried a couple of settings to try and clear this up, but didn't have any luck. Try just entering the Control-C, UserID, and Password yourself, without regard to what the screen displays, and see if that works for you. (I think you are in, but are backing off too soon.) As soon as we get you going with Whap!, you'll probably never log on with JR-Comm again, so I think we can suffer a work-around for the time being. The one other solution, which I did not try, would be to set the serial menu to 7 data bits, instead of the 8 we have configured it with. CompuServe really does want 7 bits for text, but it normally allows the 8 bits, which it needs for binary file transfers. I am NOT sure how resetting the term program to 7 bits will affect downloading, so try this one as a last resort if you cannot tolerate the few lines of garbage.
