Is there any possibility of tapes bigger than 60MB? I have a 335MB hard
disk… That would take 6 tapes @ 60MB ea.

And how many FLOPPIES? I assume you *are* backing up that hard drive!
Sounds interesting to me.
Still using floppies… It's not full YET! I guess with some compression I
could get quite a bit on a 60 Meg tape. It is still cheaper than using
Syquest 44 Meg removeable cartridges.

True. But then again the Syquest cartridges are true hard drive
platters, with all the resultant advantages of running a hard drive. And it
is much easier and cheaper to pop in a new cartridge than most other
alternatives. A cartridge for A-MAX, one for TELECOM, one for Desktop
Publishing, one for Wordprocessing and one for Database gives you LOTS of
FAST storage (at 42-44Megs per cartridge). That is an extreme example, as
many of those functions can be combined on cartridges, or the "main"
applications can be on one large hard drive, and the DATA on the Syquest.

As of this time, no, though that does not suggest that larger tapes may not
be available for this drive in the future. There is talk of possible going
to a 120 MB tape in this format.
Even so, the use of six tapes to back up your drive is far better than the
350+ floppies you would need otherwise!!
The tape drive does sound better than 350 floppies. I am always looking for
something better than what's available though. 🙂
