Forfacc Release 1.1 – A floppy disk watcher for FaccII This is the
second release of my forfacc program. This program watches floppy disk
inserts and removals and will send a message to faccii when the count
of inserted is zero and will re-allocate buffers when the count goes to
one. A bug in the first version was discovered that would give the
illusion that forfacc was not asking faccii to re-allocate buffers when
a disk was inserted. Fixed.
Betty,
Idled forfacc and tried to use it, I have a 2000. 2090A, 2088
bridgebord 2 megs of fast ram. I also use CrossDoss v4.0, that I activae
DI2: from my strartup-sequence, whenever forfacc is acticated and I insert
a disk in df2:/di2: I get a system requestor that says no disk inserted in
drive df2: This is an Amigados disk not a pc disk, the disk icon will not
appear or can not get to df2: from cli or any cli utilities, this seems to
be directly related to Cross Doss as I can use the kill DI2: utility and it
seems to work properly. I guess this isn't a bug report but an
incompatibily report. Has any one else reported this problem?
Do you use FaccII?? This was just a utility to go with that program, and
if you don't have FaccII, it won't help you. I believe the description
mentioned that.
Yes Betty I have Facc II. I put both in my startup drawer ( a pd version
not 2.0) and made the proper (as in the instruction) changes to the tool
types in thier icons. Evrything seems to work fine if I deactivate
CrossDoss ie demount DI2:. But with DI2: mounted it acts crazy and keeps
saying thier is no disk in drive df2: wether i try to access it or not.
Just ins inserting a disk gets the requestors popping up.
I ussually don't use FaccII unless I am doing a lot of work from
floppies and this program seem to be just what I needed. Has anyone else
reported this or similar problems? It is not I big deal with me I can
easily unmount my DI2: drive to use it just thought you would like to know.

You are the only one who has mentioned it, but perhaps you are just the
first to find it out. It is quite possible that the two programs are
incompatible.

I tried it on my machine last night. No problem. I am running crossdos v4
and run with faccii and forfacc all the time. The program (forfacc) only
checks for drives df0-df3, so I can't see it being effected by di0-di3 at
all. If you can give me your exact sequence of operation to cause this
error, I will check it here again. – Mark Jacobs (the author)
Mark, I had no trouble with ForFacc – but some other member did. I forget
now who it was. But thank you for trying it out and reporting back. It
helps to know that it works for you, else we might have decided that we
just had a bad file!

If I might interject – I've built FACCII into my Pagestream disk, along
with the CrossDos system, and I D/L'd Forfacc and loaded it up without
really knowing what its doing for me. Whatever it is, it does it cheerfully
and safely, without making PgS any more . . . precarious than it already
was.

Thanks for the report, Ronald. I think our user who thought it gave
problems must have had something else go wrong. It does help to know that
it works safely.

Will try to duplicate it, I have only tried it twice and the same
thing happened both times so I put it up. It could be something else that
caused it to, I have my startupsequence pretty loaded up so I will try
starting there and will let you know what I find. It could be tat I tried
to start both faccii and forfacc from a pd version of the startup drawer
from OS 2.0. I think I got it off a amiga resource or some disk based
magazine, let me delve into it and see what I can find.
