#Version 1.2a seems fixed
5 messages in this thread
To All QuarterBack Tool users:
I just received version 1.2a and found some of my previous problems had
disappeared, but I found that in several areas the program would lock up
while munching on large partitions with a lot of files.
On a hunch I checked the icon with the info command and found that the icon
had no STACK setting. I gave it a 50K stack and tried again.
Voila! All of my problems disappeared. I have now tried all the functions
and everything works flawlessly. At least for me. I'm using a Microbotics
HardFrame with the new 1.9 ROMS and a 105 meg Quantum, along with an A2630
board.
I especially like the defrag option. Much fast than BAD and not nearly as
hard on my drive.
It seems possible that Central Coast forgot to set the STACK in the icon.
At least it worked for me. Try it at your own risk. Remember back up your
HD first!!!!

Greg,
Be careful with 1.2a. Just this last weekend I became a beta tester for
1.2a. I've identified a number of bugs. Want to try a "fun" test? Back
up your HD first, then select "find and repair". After it does it's thing,
immediately do it again. Then again. Then again. If you're _real_ lucky,
when the program finally tells you it can no longer find bad files, you
_might_ have a file or 2 left on the HD. I started out with 15M on a 20M
had (with no apparent problems to begin… with). I ended up with 0 files
on the HD. The program can create bad links as it's "fixing" them. For
another fun test, select "FAST" from the menu, then try to defrag. If
you're lucky your machine may not lock up (with a black screen) when it
begins the actual defrag process.
Hmmm .. Beta testing a released product? I guess that makes us all Beta
testers. I am using V1.2a.

Paul,
Well, I don't know what else to call it other than "beta testing" at
this point. On Monday I watched George sit down with 1.2a, MetaScope, and a
2000 with a 2090a in… it for over 4 hours trying to locate and fix
problems. I also told him about, and duplicated several problems I'd run
into the previous evening. He then handed me a problem report form, of
which I've since made 20 or so copies of. Some of the… problems of 1.2a
are 2090 driver specific (or that is what he believes), however the program
also has problems with Supra's WordSync and the TrumpCard and TrumpCard
Professional. George appears very commited to fixing these problems as
quickly as possible.
In my opinion, tho, the main problem that I've had with it, the find
and repair bad files, is not really fixable due to program design itself.
Time will tell.
I picked up V1.0, which simply didn't work on my system. Then I heard that
Flatlands BBS was providing some level of support by making V1.2a available
to registered users. I wonder if that was merely a stop-gap measure just to
get V1.0 users up and running. At any rate, I am using a GVP Impact 2000-HC
Hardcard here, and V1.2a seems to work. A few minor dits, such as the
Cancel gadget. If it changed color it would be a nice indicator that the
task had indeed been cancelled.
