Bridgeboard/Intel 386

As a recent Amiga convert I'm considering consolidating my computer arsenal
to a single machine (Amiga 2000 with Bridgeboard). Still need MS Windows
capability for business reasons and would like to retain the ability to run
Windows in the Enhanced 386 mode…..is it possible to use one of the PC386
upgrade boards like the Intel386 in one of the A2000 PC slots in
conjunction with the Bridgeboard? Is this just wishful thinking? Would
also like to hear from anyone that is running MS Windows using an A2000
with the 286 Bridgeboard? How is the performance?
I have not used it personally but the SOTA386si board is said to work
with the 2088 XT BridgeBoard. It uses a 386sx chip. The INTEL 386 speed
up board DOES NOT work according to postings. Norm
Norm….thanks for the "quick" reply (didn't even have time to sign
off)……haven't seen any ads for the SOTA386i….guess I'll have to do
some research…(anybody out there have any experience with the SOTA386i
with MSWindows enhanced mode?)
The Sota 386si is a nice board for the bb, but amouse and timeserv do NOT
work with it in 386 mode. Also, I don't believe Windows 3 has been
successfully run on any bb in the 'best' mode. I'm also told by Microsoft
that most Windows software requires ega or higher.

Ron….I somewhat new to the Amiga so I need to be "educated", what is
"AMOUSE" and "TIMESERV" also is it possible to run VGA with the BB by using
a VGA card in one of the PC slots?

AMOUSE makes the Amiga mouse emulate a microsoft mouse on the BB side.
TIMESERV uses the Amiga clock to set the BB clock. A VGA card will work
oon the BB side. I have a friend with the 286BB and he has a VGA card,
Paradies VGA I believe, and is running WINDOWS3.0 on it!
To get around the time problem you can by a clock card or multifunc
card with a clock for the BB side. I use the AST6PACK board. To get
around the mouse problem you will probably have to buy a second mouse and
plug it into the multifunction card serial port. Norm
Yes, some vga cards are usable in pc slots when using the bridgeboard
slots. Amouse is software to emulate a microsoft mouse on the bb using the
Amiga mouse, and timesrv uses the Amiga clock as a pc clock.

As long as your on the subject, I never could manage to get timesrv to do
anything for me. I double click it and then go to the pc side and it still
doesn't know what time it is. Is this only good for setting the time if
you already have a clock/calendar on the pc side? Or is it supposed to set
the current system time on the PC? (the manual implies that it can do this)
Do I have to run a program on the PC side to 'catch' the time that is being
sent over?

To use TimeServ, you must run it on the Amiga side FIRST, then also
have the command ATIME in your autoexec.bat on the PC side. This will allow
the PC to read the time and date from the Amiga's clock and stamp it on all
your PC files, etc.

Ahh, I see, I wonder why they failed to mention this under the section
about timeserv in the manual. Thanks muchly for your help.

Yes, a lot of the manual is rather unclear in areas…I learned
alot from some read.me files included with the installation software for my
Supra WordSync interface, as well as from back issues of magazines.

Fortunately, I don't have to deal with the BB docs very much. Mostly my
Amiga and IBM sides don't talk to each other on the user-interactive level.
Just PC-disk and now timeserv/atime. I almost never use Aread/write and
such. Although recently I've been using the two connected serially to test
a kermit program I have to write on the PC.

You have to run the pc side program to pick up that time and set the
'software' clock on the pc. You must have Janus 2 software on both the
Amiga and bb sides.

Yes, I have ver. 2, I just didn't catch the part that said I had to run
ATIME to get the time from the PC side. Thanks for the help, now all my
files won't be from Jan 1, 1980.

List
This list tells of lots of products that have been tried with the
bridgeboard, along with comments from the people who tried them – did they
work or not, etc. I thought there was a newer one than this, but this is
the latest that came up when I did a quick check there.
