SuperJAM! is designed to assist in easily creating a six-member backup
band. The composition process is fully interactive and does not involve
notation. It is not, however, a toy. In fact, it's a rather amazing piece
of work that can not only emulate any musical style, it can do so in a
realistic, human-like manner.
I am amazed to watch people use SuperJAM! Each person gets entirely unique
musical results. And the speed at which people compose with this program
is astounding.
SuperJAM! is for those with outstanding musical knowledge and those with
none at all. The program is multi-layered to allow you to dig as deep or
stay as shallow as you'd like.
SuperJAM!'s TurboSound Technology and TurboSample editor allow people to
create their own instruments and play up to 16 at a time. Every other Amiga
music program has been capable of playing only four at a time.
SuperJAM! was designed by a team that included everything from professional
composers to artificial intelligence experts.

We expect to release SuperJAM! a week prior to Thanksgiving. (That's a
conservative estimate. It's very possible that it may ship before then.)
SuperJAM! will be "launched" at The World of Commodore show in London,
England.

the programs capabilities. That would certainly be appreciated.

What's the trick with 16 voice Turbo<wince>Sound? Do you "dither" the
instruments somehow? Are instruments/samples standard IFF/8SVX? If not
can IFF stuff be converted? Thanks. — Art
The actual TurboSound code is proprietary. I can tell you this, though:
IFF samples can be loaded, then converted to TurboSamples.
Art: It's probably a lot like my programs "Wink" and "8-pus" which play 8
voices on amiga in real time: I'm using additive synthesis. Note that 16
voices makes the samples effectively 4-bits, so the fidelity is not so hot
(unless some time-consuming compansion is also going on). On a 7Mhz
machine, the best I coud manage was about 7Khz of sound before the double
buffers couldn't flip over. That was with 8 voices and not much processing
overhead, in assembler using some unrolled, register intensive code. Though
on my 25-Mhz machine, there's no problem getting good fidelity (which is
after all related more to the sample rate than the number of bits in the
sample , the output filter acting as an integrator…), and in fact I've
bumped wink and 8-pus up to 20MHz or so , 16 voices on a 7Mhz machine may
not sound too hot. (especially with all 16 going at once) On the other
hand, B&P doesn't need to monitor the incoming MIDI stream like 8-pus and
Wink do, and another trick, involving alternating samples from two banks of
sound instead of adding them can seem to allow more accurate sample lengths
(at half the sample rate, if used, at full sample rate if not used…the
trick is to only use it when all other bandwidth is filled up…). Ah,
sweet music! As simple as a rustic pan-pipe or the burbling of a
daydreaming child!
