Hello all, I have a question about virus's….. I used this virus program
the other day and it says I have a coldcapture not at the right hex(or
whatever).. It says it removed it but when I boot up again it says that it
is still there… What is going on???? I haven't the faintest idea!!!! Is
it bad should I get my 'puter fixed???? Well thanx for the help!! John
Hi.
This could be about any virus. If you boot from disk then get your original
WorkBench Disk and boot from it after powering off and and waiting for
about 10 seconds.
Make sure the Disk is write-protected.
Install a new bootblock on the disk you usually boot from, using INSTALL.
Boot from your boordisk and check ColdCapture again.
I suggest you get a better Virusdetector and check all your disks. Don't
ask me what programs there are, I have no clue what software you guys have
in USA.

If you have a 2091 controller and are using VirusX, you will get the
"Cold Capture Vector not Zero" message every time you boot. This is
'normal' and not a problem.

What equipment do you have in your computer? Is it a 500 or 1000,2000, or
3000? Depending on your computer, it could be nothing, as a matter of fact
VirusX (one of the more popular checking programs) even has an option (-r I
think) to NOT look at the coldcapture because of this.

I believe using ADOS 1.3's SETPATCH with the "r" option will alter the
Coldcapture vector. If you are using doing this, then there is no real
problem.

Well thanks for all the replies…..! I have a 500 with the fatter agnus I
am not using a HD just a plain 500 with an external drive, thats it really.
So what should I do now???? Thanks again! John

You mean "setpatch" rather than "setpath"?
If so…the 'r' option allows a recoverable ram drive (RAD:, VD0:)
to recover on bootup. WIthout the 'r' option, the memory gets trashed if
you've got greater than 1 Meg of CHIP RAM.
