I'm running DRDOS 5 on my XT bridgeboard now. Except for losing
the jlink virtual drives, it is similar to running MSDOS 3.3. The
aread/awrite command pair is still available. The atime and amouse also
work assuming you don't have something else like the SOTA 386si that
prevents the use of the amouse and atime programs. Moreover, the use of
DRDOS 5 's additional enhancements is available such as the command line
history similar to the Amiga shell or Norton Commander's command history
(Please note that I said similar NOT the same). Some of the memory
management is also available. You would also be able to have hard disk
partitions greater than 32M. DRDOS 5 is designed to be compatible with
MSDOS 3.3 and will report back a version number of 3.3 to those programs
that require it.
There is a utility available in DRFORUM to set the version in
DRDOS. Of course it is possible to find out a great many more things about
DRDOS there.

Well, that's good info. I have run PC/Geos and DesqView without
any problems other than keyboard in DesqView, but that was easily solved.
I just installed the SOTA 386si card. I bought a serial mouse to replace
the Amiga mouse. I had a second multi-function card and tried to install
its serial port as COM2, but the system just refused to recognize its
existence, so for now I have one serial port which is either mouse or
modem. I don't know what to do about the second serial port. My second I/O
card works fine when configured for COM1, but nothing seems to make the BB
recognize it as anything else, although it's parallel port gets noticed.

Hey, thanks. I'll give it a try. If it works then I get back my
serial port! Why didn't you tell me this before I bought the serial
mouse???!!!

Belive me two weeks ago I didn't know this either, after getting the
Sota, I found out the hard way experimenting… wishing I had an extra
slot….

I tried it and it worked! Gosh, good to get that port back. It's
strange that I've heard umpteen reports about the Sota's incompatibility
with Amouse, but this was the first time I ever heard of the solution.
You'd think a lot of people would have found out by now, but guess not.

The secret was the text file Amouse somewhere in the DL's documenting
Amouse and putting A1000 timing problems together with SPEED…. PS Itried
the SOTA 16i card (4 megs exp/extended memory) and it does NOT work sent it
back today, so its back to the 8-bit expanded memory and a Jlinked HD :^(

What type of expanded memory card do you use? I'd like to know
just for reference what works with the BB and what doesn't.
