Amiga Graphics with C
8 messages in this thread
I am looking for a text that will explain how to access the Amiga's
graphics functions from C. Also: which of the Amiga ROM kernal reference
manuals would I need, assuming I want to confine my preliminary
investigations to graphics and sound only?
Thanks for any help. Lee DeWitt
Your best bet will be the Amiga Rom Kernal manuals. You should get both
the Library and Devices manual and the AutoDocs manuals. You will also
want to get the AmigaDos Technical Reference manual from Bantam books.
IMHO, this is the minimum for good programming on the Amiga. Of course, we
are always here to answer questions as you start to do development.

Thanks, I'll see if I can find them. I attempted to order a book called
"Inside the Amiga with C" but was told by Waldenbooks that it was no longer
published. Have you encountered this book? If so, was it usefull or worth
trying to obtain. It sounded like just what I needed.

The name rings a bell, but I don't have a copy on my book shelf here. Do
you know the author?

No, I only have the name. I'll check the local library. It's possible
they may have it. Thanks for your help.

Lee,
_Inside the Amiga With C_ is more confusing than helpful. The
examples don't follow standard procedures for *any* multi-tasking system,
let alone the Amiga. Also, the examples aren't compatible with each other.
The book was poorly edited, IMO. To paraphrase Dorothy Parker, "This is
not a book to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great
force." TINAR, IMHO, YMMV, etc., etc., ad nauseam…

Hi John. I recently received the WB 2.04 upgrade for my 3000. Do you
know if the Amiga Rom Kernal manuals are up to date with this version? And
if not, when they will be available? Regards,
Henry Williams
