#M2Sprint & WB2.04

Has anyone tried running M2Sprint under WB2.04 yet? I'll be upgrading as
soon as my dealer manages to get hold of the package, and it's very
important that I know of any possible problems. Avant-Garde, if there are
compatibility problems between M2Sprint and 2.0, will they be fixed? I
recently bought a used copy of Benchmark M2, but I still muchly prefer
M2Sprint. I _might_ consider going to BM _if_ M2Sprint isn't going to be
fixed if needed, and _if_ Oxxi's pending M2 compiler isn't out yet or is
worse … Thanks in advance.

Aside from a lack of .def files for 2.0, both BM and M2Sprint work
perfectly under WB2.0. As for Oxxi's new package, [ahem] keep breathing…

Thanks for the info. As long as it all runs, I don't really need 2.0
defs (yet). Hmmm … I wonder how much trouble someone someone might get
into for independently developing a set of 2.0 M2 defs …

It's an enormous job. Believe me, I know. I've been working on them for
months on and off.

M2Sprint isn't going to be fixed ever, as far as I've heard. I think that
AG just bought it to get it off the market. I certainly hope that Leon will
log in and say I'm wrong, but considering that none of the original
developers are still involved with M2Sprint, I don't think any upgrades are
forthcoming.
I wouldn't expect an M2 compiler from Oxxi anytime soon at all, either.
As far as I know, there's not any currently-supported (ie: upgrades, 2.0
support, etc.) Modula-2 compiler available for the Amiga. Which is a real
bummer.
"A real bummer"… that's taking it lightly. I'm very upset. I have
invested a lot of time and money in Modula 2 having owned TDI, BM and
M2Sprint and they're all gone. I can't believe we can't even get 2.0
definitions. I keep trying with C, but I just can't get comfortable with it
like M2.

Tell me about it. I detest C so much (can't think in the "c" mindset)
that, now that there's no supported M2 compiler on the Amiga, I've just
stopped programming.
I'm probably going to use AMOS for a couple of interesting projects I have
coming up. It's a bit quirky and non-Amiga-standard, but hey, I'll take a
weird BASIC over C anytime.
Is benchmark actually "gone"? I haven't heard much here from Leon lately,
but I hadn't heard anything to suggest that the product is now orphaned.

Thanks for the reply. I'd seen an Oxxi M2 compiler in a printed product
list a couple of months back (was with a mailing about Sonix or some other
of their products) and I remembered a rumor that they'd picked up Martin
Tailleffer's new compiler (that would've been M2SprintII ) so I thought
maybe they were close.
I spoke with Benchmark just before I got their compiler (a month or so
ago) and they said they were working on an update. I'll wait and see what
it offers before I get it. It might be worth it just to get the 2.0 defs
and modify them for use in the much better M2Sprint environment.

But that was Leon's goal when he sureeptitiously bought M2Sprint: never fix
it, refuse to support it, an hop no competition to BM arose. That way he
wouldn't have to even keep BM up to date. Best advice is to switch to C.
At least those products are supported.
