Morphing IFF wraps

Is it possible to morph IFF color maps in Imagine?
I tried the other night, but all the frames from 1 to 9 were the same,
then frame 10 was what I wanted to morph to.

Kevin, 'is it possible to morph IFF color maps in Imagine?'. I don't
think so, not if you're thinking what I think you're thinking.
If you mean, can I assign MAP.1 (image) to an object in frame 1, and MAP.2
to an object in frame 10, and have Imagine automatically slowly change the
first image into the second over 10 frames, then the answer is NO. There's
no program (with limited exception of DPaintIV) that can morph bitmapped
images one to another (that I know of). Imagine certainly cannot.
If you mean, can I have 10 images (MAP.1, MAP.2, MAP.3,…,MAP.10) and have
them shown one after the other, then the answer is MAYBE. You *cannot* do
it for an object (ie. have the image wrap for an object change over ten
frames), but you can do it for the background image of the render (set in
the globals requestor). So you could have different images BEHIND each of
your 10 rendered objects. There are rules for how you have to name and
access those images, so check the manual.
I think above is accurate.

Thanks John,
I had wanted an IFF wrap on an object to morph over 10 frames. I may
try creating my own "inbetween" IFFs and mapping each to a different
object. Then have 10 objects on the actor timeline. If I can find the
time to paint the 8 inbetween's
I thought it would produce a cool effect, and if Imagine could have
calculated the inbetweens it would have been a lot less work.

Yeah, you want an animation playing inside of your animation, right?
You might try DPaintIV and it's 'bitmapped' morphing capabilities. I have
DPaintIV, but haven't tried that feature yet. Maybe someone else here has
and can advise? (it sounds too good to be true, but who knows)

Pageflipper plus F/x can do anims inside of anims.
Ben
The "Morph" feature in Dpaint 4 is AWESOME I created a 2 and a half minute
animation called "Evolution #9" using it as the main parts
Thanks for the tip. I'll be trying 'morph' out soon, I'd expect!
Your animation…. is it real-time? If so, how are you putting it
together… Director? etc…. I'd guess that you are splicing bits
together on tape for the 2.5 minute version?
Any way to get a look at it? 🙂

Yup my anim is REAL time.I ED AMISION to output to tape with music As to
being able to see it.Depends on if "Underground Animation Festival"
releases a tape or not as I entered it in the Festival
DPIV's capability of morphing(IN TECHNIQUE) is pretty bad. It has some
potential but its just another fancy effect that has not much of a
practical use. Now if it had an abundant color and an accuracy of Michael
Jackson or T2 effects, thats a diffent story + its mighty practical (money
maker). I think ILM did those effects.

Rawl,
I agree that DPaint's morphing features are not the best technique, but
it might be practical enough for us to use in our current software project
we are doing at work.
Also, I am not sure about this, but I think it's also being used by a few
companies that are working on CD-I software.
BTW, my boss just got back from Philips Multimedia in CA… It seems that
the Amiga is being used in a few other CD-I titles also (they have a room
full of Amigas). I'm pretty sure that Sandys Adventure Circus (CD-I title)
graphics were done on good 'ol ami! Pretty funny eh? CD-I is competition
for CDTV! Unfortunatly, I don't think C= will ever come out ahead of
Philips or Sony.
Yah, I wish it had more colors-> but thats generally for DPIV all together
too. And as for personal computers, DPIV is the only tool I've seen that
does 2D morphing<-So you're right, thats not too bad afterall. You'll see
some DPIV morphing animation being used on upcoming famous game. :-)You'll
know it if you see that one.
