#A1200 Surprise Release

I have been hearing tentative rumours of a 1200 which will sport a
68020, WB3, AA chips, IDE drive, PCMCIA et al in a 600 case with numeric
keypad (shades of 500). this machine may retail under 500 pounds UK and be
out very soon.
Can anyone confirm or deny?

The A1200 has been officially announced in the UK. Specs are as you say,
except I believe the retail price will be 399 pounds. I've heard the
machine will ship with 2 megs of (CHIP) RAM and a 20 or 40 meg 2.5"
Seagate IDE hard drive. The A1200 evidently has a 32-bit expansion port
as well.
I imagine C= will announce the machine at Fall COMDEX (mid-November).

Yup, I can confirm all you say!
What I want to know is when are they going to come up with a suitable
alternative to the beloved 2000. Machines like the 1200 only whet the
appetite … but we still need Zorro slots for BridgeBoards and the like.
By the way, I have a buddy who has just taken delivery of the 4000. Ape
about the spec, but be wary of overscan problems with monitors (he says he
cannot pull VGA-type modes 640×480 off the right hand side of the screen).
Maybe the AA chips are not as well tested as they could be?

Has your friend tried centering that 640×480 screen using the Prefs
Overscan program? It saves a different preferences file for each screen
mode you adjust with it.
I wouldn't be surprised if C= released an Amiga or two to fill in the
space between the A1200 and the A4000. We shall see…. 8^)

Not sure if it comes with the hard drive for 399 pounds.

The 399 pounds figure is for the A1200's base configuration…no HD.
