#Mac Emulator? (EMPLANT?)
13 messages in this thread
I'm looking for information on the EMPLANT and/or other
macintosh emulators for the Amiga.
Does anyone have a text file, or e-mail address, or
phone/address for more info?
I've checked out the libraries here already.
Thanks for your help.

Steven,
As far as I can tell, or anyone else for that matter, EMPLANT doesn't
exist except on paper, until someone reports they have it in their
possession and use it.
Now AMAXII 2.51 works quite well, although only in black and white as a
Mac Plus. I use it all the time running Adobe Illustrator 3.2, Pagemaker
4.1 and QuarkXpress 3.0. I have used Microsoft Word, Excel and terminal
programs like White Knight and Microphone II. You can call Readysoft at:
ReadySoft Inc.(Mac emulator AMAX)

I'm not going to even comment on EMPLANT, I don't want to spread any
rumours about something that I don't think exists.

Steven,
I can tell you this about the Emplant:
It is vapor, pure and simple. Mine has been on order since 8/04, and
not yet shown up.

Steven,
Emplant is (maybe) being developed by Utilities Unlimited of Arizona, Inc.,
1641 McCulloch Blvd, Suite 25-124, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86403.
I tried to contact them for information for CROSSINGS, the woman on the
phone said she would fax it to me, the fax phone rang two or three times
but nothing came through. When I called back and said I was on deadline,
she said the fax wasn't working, and she'd try again. I never heard any
more. Whether the board is real or not, they're not making friends with
either the press or their potential customers!

I have used an AMAX for years, it works great if you can live with a B/W
display.
I have watched – with MUCH interest, the talk of the EMPLANT board.
I have ALSO heard many things said concerning the DUBIOUS quality of the
products from the makers of EMPLANT. I cannot attest to the accuracy of
these reports, but as of 2 weeks ago someone on CIS had been waiting for 4
weeks for an EMPLANT board to be shipped to him Real Soon Now. I still
haven't heard whether he got his EMPLANT (for that matter no one has said
they've actually received an EMPLANT board), and they had charged his
credit card over 6 weeks ago.
In my dealings with ReadySoft, they have been prompt, friendly, and
helpful.
Their system is rock-solid and has been around for years, EMPLANT remains
vaporware.
(Though it does sound pretty cool! – Almost TOO cool :^)
BTW, the AMAXII+ card work s fine in my A3000/Toaster system. I now have a
HD floppy drive and can read ANY format disk be it Mac, IBM, or Amiga.
Put that in your EMPLANT and smoke it!

P. S. ReadySoft (makers of AMAXII & AMAXII+) can be reached at:
Phone #416-731-4175.
Their product should be available at your local Amiga dealer.
I can't find their address, sorry.
The last thing I heard was there was a problem with Emplant and 030
boards. They said they hoped to have it out by the end of the weekend.
I gave the Emplant folks the benefit of the doubt a couple of weeks ago
when they said it was shipping, but now I'm not sure what to think. It's
still vapor at this point, and I don't think (someone correct me if I'm
wrong here) there's ever been a public showing of Emplant _in action_.
Steve
Steve,
The last day of the show in Pasadena (WOA) he supposedly showed up with
EMPLANT, but I somehow missed it (I was there till they escorted me out
the door after it closed Sunday 😉 ). I'm not sure about this but he just
had the board with him, no connected to any computer.
I just want to hear from ONE PERSON, just one who has the board in
their computer!
Anyone with access to multiple net systems like internet, etc. please
put out a feeler question.
Does anyone in the world besides UU have an EMPLANT board, and can it be
used for anything else besides a door shim?
Inquiring minds have got to know,
Chris
I saw the board at WOCA but it wasn't plugged into anything.. There was a
problem with it and the DMI board which UU and DMI were going to show being
used together at the DMI booth. DMI pulled out of the showing and so just
the board was there.

Given the history of comments re: the mfrs of EMPLANT on this SIG, I would
suggest you consider trying to get your VISA money back before its too
late.
It WOULD be cool if it worked.

You must be replying to someone else….or you misunderstood something.
I've never ordered (or even considered ordering) an Emplant. Don't need
one.
Steve
Sorry.
I was trying to respond to the person on this thread who had been charged
for an EMPLANT board over 7 weeks ago, and had not received anything yet.
Unfortunately, I have disabled message history on AutoPilot, and don't
know who that is.
Again, my apologies.

Erik,
Since I am the guy that has ordered the Emplant, I thought that I'd make
sure that rumor does not get started. Here are the facts:
* Ordered the board 8/04; got the Appletalk option.
* Got a postcard either last week in Sept. or 1st week in Oct. telling
me that my credit card *may* be charged…and the board is coming.
* Have not yet heard from the accounting department if the card has been
charged yet, so I assume it has not.
* Called two weeks ago…told that the boards were shipping, that I
would see it "Real Soon Now", and that they were caught up to June orders
completely…
* Called Wed., told that they had *stopped* shipping due to software
bugs and technical troubles with the Microbiotics accelerator…also
claimed that the Microbiotics problem was simply a defective (accelerator)
board. Told to call back after Friday if I didn't hear from them.
So, its a bad situation, but not as bad as it sounds. If anyone charged
my card for 6 weeks without delivering, I'd shut that down pretty quickly
and get the law on the line. That's illegal, I believe.

Thanks for the clarification – it HAS been along time that you've been
waiting for this beasty.
I thought you'd been charged awhile back, and was amazed at your level of
tolerance. :^)
I'm sure we'll be the first to hear, but do make sure and tell us all how
it works.
