I've recently had to relocate to Vermont and I'm looking for Amiga user
groups, BBSs, and dealers. Does anyone know of any? Thanks …

Hey, how close are you to Albany? There are a couple in the area

I'm about two hours from Albany. Are the "couple" dealers or users
groups? If UGs, when do they meet? I was kinda hoping for something
closer, but … Anyway, thanks for the info.

There are two dealers, and there are at least a couple of users groups.
One meets in Latham at Contemporary Computers, and there is a group in
Albany proper. Don't know when they meet, but can find out if you'd
like…of course, you could always call me if you need any help 🙂

usergroups…I have not attended a meeting in *years*, and I need to hit
some local BBS to find out what is available.
Send me some E-mail, to jog my memory (in case I forget), and I'll
get you information, and BBS numbers, too.

Nope, no job yet. I keep finding new places to send resumes, though
8^). I hope I don't run out 'cause that'll make it hard to keep collecting
unemployment (they like to see at least 2 contacts/week). Vermont's OK so
far – been really cold lately, the high being much lower than the low in
Miami. Hasn't snowed yet, but it's supposed to rain all week and some of
that may turn into snow as it goes down into the 20s overnight. Anyway,
for you lurkers, if you know of any software engineering opportunities in
Atlanta, Chicago, or Vermont that don't require Unix or Windows _please_
let me know 8^). I'm working on teaching myself Windows but I'm not
masochistic enough to tackle Unix on my own.

Where are you in Vermont? There used to be, and maybe still is, a
usergroup near Burlington (Jericho or Essex Junction, I remember). Dunno
about way downstate… I'm 20 miles east of St. Johnsbury.

I'm in a little town called Poultney – about halfway between Rutland
and Bennington (I think). I've been told it's about 1.5 hours south of
Montpelier. Does that help? Also, do you perhaps know any Amiga-supporting
BBSs in the area? Thanks …

Brass Butterfly is a small manufacturing company in Pultney that I used to
represent. No big deal… your message was just the first mention of that
town I've ever heard outside of my business. I'll wave to ya when I'm in
Nashua, NH over the weekend.

sometimes confuse the two if I don't look closely enough.

Poultney isn't exactly a the booming metropolois of the NE nor a burgeoning
center of high-tech industry… what in the world brought you there?

My grandparents live here. They have a big old house with 2 apartments
attached, one of which was open. My sister has my mom's old room. It's a
good base of operations (the rent's cheap …) until I can find work.
Having an apartment anywhere else would've cost too much (I'm on
unemployment right now). And as soon as my folks finish up in Miami
(selling what's left of the house and property, finishing off my mom's
job, etc.) they'll be up here as well. We'd been wanting to get out of
Miami for a while, but this sorta made up our minds real quick 8^).

Sounds like you'll be hitting the slopes at Killington this year, huh? We
used to go up there every season. It is a very nice area.

Yep, I plan to take a trip over there at some point to take ski lessons
(provided I have enough money, which doesn't look promising at the moment
…) and hope I don't break any bones 8^).

I know where Poultney is, having motorcycled the length and width of VT
numerous times (in warmer weather, of course). I don't know of any BBSs,
groups or dealers in that area (which doesn't mean they aren't there). It
may be that your nearest dealer is in Albany. There _is_ a top notch
dealer in Wellesley, MA (The Memory Location), which is the closest to me,
but that may be further than Albany…. One of the usual pricetags of
living where there's clean air, low crime, and fabulous scenery is the low
density of certain amenities, like Amiga-related activity, high cultchah,
social services, public trans, etc. Oh, well!

Thanks for the reply. I found a BBS number posted in a mall today, but
I don't know yet if they have an Amiga section. I'm gonna call them later.
I guess I'll have to rely on mail-order more than I used to until I find a
dealer (or move to a bigger town 8^)). Don't know how I'm gonna "power up"
to an AGA machine (if CBM offers such a deal later) without a dealer,
though. Guess I'll have to drive to Albany after all. Oh, well.

Well, I'll be! I _thought_ that was you… Actually, we were on
Nantucket all weekend (last footrace of my season), so passed by Nashua
twice, putting us closer than we otherwise would've been (I really am
located _wicked_ Nawth)!

Susan and I spent Thursday driving from Boston down to the cape. We
stopped at Plymouth to visit the 'rock' and gaze at the Mayflower II (and
wonder out loud how anyone in their right mind could possibly set foot on
a ship that size for a jaunt across the Atalntic)… it was a pretty cold,
drizzely day, so we just drove south and out to Buzzards Bay, then headed
up to Nashua. Saturday and Sunday we went out to my brothers house in
Durham (Everett Expwy to 101 to 125 or something like that). The weekend
was cold, but pretty sunny most of the time. Did you get any snow while on
Nantucket or was that Sunday night? Sunday afternoon we all drove up to
Kittery to do the mandatory shopping trip.
The last time I was on Nantucket was the week that Neil Armstrong stepped
on to the moon (and Ted Kennedy assasinated his own charachter).
We were going to go out the either Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket, as
Susan has never been there, but the weather just didn't warrant the
hassle. Maybe next time. Sure is pretty country up there. Now if they'd
just push Boston proper in to the harbor, it's be close to perfect.

Sounds as if you and Susan had a busy visit! We had somewhat nicer
weather on Nantucket – some sun and temps in upper 40's. Only snow we saw
was getting off the ferry at Hyannis.
I like Nantucket (this being my second visit) but would not want to
battle the crowds on either island in Summer.
So, one of these times you come East, you might consider heading up our
way! Scenery to knock your sox off, hike or ski depending on season,
factory outlets galore in No. Conway, and so on. If I know you're coming,
I'll arrange the red carpet treatment…
