Thanks, Chris, for the info. I'll call Schreiber tomorrow. For this
project, I'd like to farm out the digitizing and conversion. I don't have a
tablet over 12×12. If the QuickSurf or 3DSurf is not too expensive, I'll
get that. I just love new toys (oops, I mean TOOLS!) Thanks for the quick
response.

We purchased 3DSurf last month and used it to convert 4 quadrants of point
data from the US Geo. Survey into a mountainous terrain which was the site
of a jet crash. The data translated easily and the resulting file looked
great in 3DS. We recommend the program.

Thanks for the info, Ken. I call Schreiber and they're sending me a demo
of 3DSurf, but a satisfied customer – the next best thing to buying it then
trying it – beats a demo anytime!.
Can you tell me where I can get US Geological Survey data on disk or CDROM?

John, I understand that there are a number of service bureaus who offer
USGS data. A call to USGS will probably get you the name of one in your
area. We use Geographic Information Systems in McAllen, Texas. Their
TollFree 800 number is 522-0139. Ask for Kevin and tell him that Media of
Exchange in Dallas sent you (I don't think it will do YOU any good <grin>,
but they were extra nice to us, and I want them to know that it pays off)

If your looking for USGS data on disk, we do that where I work. Most of our
digitized stuff is in Oregon and Washington, but we do a lot of custom
stuff, too. Let me know what you are looking for and maybe I can help you.

Thanks for your response, Tim. There are several areas in the east I would
like to acquire digital USGS data for. What do you need to know, latitudes
and longitudes for the areas or quad names? What is the approximate cost
for your data service; do you have fixed rates or do you quote based on the

We generally have a fixed rate, but it is very reasonable. We work by
township, so the easiest way is by quad name. All of our stuff is digitized
at 1=2000, but we are flexible. For exact quote feel free to contact my
boss, at the number below.
