Gary, I'm looking forward to the next release of 3DS, the scuttlebutt is that it's going to once again revolutionize the industry. Now that I have your ear, could you please incorporate bending and IK(no IPAS) in the keyframer with no morph targets, selective ray-tracing in the renderer, loadable 256k sequenced images for rotoscoping/compositing and optimize 3DS for Winows NT on the 275MHZ alpha chip. We 3DS users could then take over the broadcast market also. Ah yes, motion blur that rivals any on the market. Four simple(?) things thats all I ask. BTW, We had a station using ElAS at the beginning of the Dylan project, but the complexity and editing requirements were too great for that package to over come. The MAC was relegated to some minor modeling chores and some Quicktime movie work. 3DS saved our @$%%^'s on this project. I can't thank you guys enough. Thanks again, Jack Walsh

Jack, >> We 3DS users could then take over the broadcast market also. << I won't take issue with your requests for R5 but IMO it is not that 3DS is not up to taking on the Broadcast market as it stands. It is the fact that it is a fairly new software package (relatively speaking) and it takes time to get animators with enough design skills and use of the product to produce the kind of animations that the Broadcast market will accept. I think this is the real reason that it has not had more wide spread acceptance. Lightwave and Wavefront have both been around considerably longer and that accounts for part of it. The other part is that the industry is fairly entrenched, so its going to take awhile for 3DS to grab hold. But I already see it making great inroads and its just a matter of time, as the skill of the animator base improves. FWIW I just finished my second Pay-Per-View intro this year and January isn't even over. Nothing really fancy as this is a new look for them and they are testing the waters. Its a clean piece though and I expect more to follow. The first one I mentioned about a month ago. Its called the "Fight Zone" (sound familar <g>) which was done for a Kick boxing series produced at the Palledium. The second one is still being marketed for distribution so I can't comment. So its happening, but as more people get into it and show what can be done the faster its going to happen. John
