Beginner's Questions

Aargh!
Just started using AA and have some very basic questions regarding its
capabilities – can you folks help?
1. Can we use 640×480 graphics in AA? (320×200 looks pretty ugly.) 2. If
so, how can we get full-screen 640×480 graphics into AA? 3. Can we do
polymorphic tweening of drawn images (such as a
line drawn computer to a person)? How? 4. How can we make smaller
sized animations to fit inside a window
of another product? Can AA crop the entire flic?
Thanks for your help! Any ideas are welcome… back to the "drawing
board"… <puff, puff>

Roger & Laura:
The old AA will only do 320×200 resolution. You need Animator Pro for
640×480 graphics. It will also alow you to size the images smaller, and go
up to 1280×1024 if you want.

Since we're on the topic of Animator Pro, I have a question. Can you buy
Animator Pro as an upgrade to Animator, or do you have to buy it
separately? Thanks for your help.
Animator Pro is not an upgrade to AA; it is a separate product. There was
a special for registered Animator owners back when AAPro was first
released, but that is long since over.
Phil,
I just received mail from ADesk telling me that I can offer AniPro as an
upgrade for $300.

Roger,
I suggest you upgrade to Animator Pro. Their is an upgrade available from
the original Animator to the Pro version which is not limited to 320×200
and has more tweening tools etc. Their is a file called ? in library 9
which gives more detail
You'll need Animator Pro for the first three questions. To fit an animation
in another product, you'll have to be a programmer and create a product
that can display flics. The flic library info is in FLCSPC.ZIP in, I
believe, DL9. You can crop an entire animation by turning on the [T] button
and then using Crop in the Effects submenu of the Flic menu. If you want to
shrink the entire flic by 50%, turn on the [T] button and use Shrink X2 in
the Effects menu. If you want to reduce a flic by some other percentage,
use the Optics panel. Set the Element to Flic, be sure and turn on the
Still option in the Movement menu (so each frame is reduced equally with no
tweening), and then use the Size button and sliders in the Optics panel to
set your scale.

(P.S. Although you can reduce the size of the flic images in Animator,
using the methods I've just described, the flic file itself will still be
320×200. Only Autodesk Animator (or 3D Studio) can create flics of varying
resolutions.)
