#dead mouse

Hi everyone, I am having a problem with my A2000. Suddenly my mouse stopped
running. I removed all boards from the machine with no luck. The mouse
buttons are still working but the pointer is not moving. I did try two
other mice with no luck. I flipped my 8520's no luck. I put in new denise
and Paula no luck. Has anybody had this problem. I am on a deadline and
there are no dealers on the Island. Someone in Miami quoted me almost $1000
for a new board. That is almost as much as a new machine. And I repeat I'm
on a deadline. Does anybody have any suggestions as to where the problem
might be. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks alot

You might try a program to switch the mouse to the second port, just to
see if that might work. I can't recall the name offhand, but, it should
be either in this forum, or in the AmigaTech Forum if it's still online
here.

Thanks I will look for the program around here. But I think that both ports
are dead. There is no voltage on pin 7.
Edward, there is a 'pico fuse' in the 5v line to the mouse. It sounds like
that fuse is blown. The fuse is labeled F1 and is just behind & to the
left of the first mouse port. Look carefully, the fuse looks more like a
resistor than a fuse. If you're in a bind, there are keyboard equivalents
to the mouse. Hold down the right Amiga key & use the cursor arrows to
move the pointer. It's slow, but it will get you by.

no voltage…it must be a fuse….test F1. It's a little green fuse about
the size of 1/4w resistor

Sounds like you blew a fuse, resistor, or cap. Check everything out with a
MultiMeter. Also try this…boot a game disk that uses port 2 for a
joystick and see if the joystick works…that will confirm that something
is blown only on port 1.

You don't need a new motherboard…you need a 10 cent pico fuse.
It's on the motherboard, labeled f7 very near the mouse connector itself.

Thanks alot guys you were right. I did not get the fuse at my local
electronics store but I shorted it for the time being. My Amiga is
rendering away again. I hope to be done by tuesday. Then I will see about
that fuse. I was already looking into a new motherboard. But it would have
taken to long to get down here to the island. Not to mention the $700.

Watch your static around the CPU….thats what usally blows that fuse…may
even want to ground your mouse mat if it happens again.

I just caught the tale end of this. I just lost the xy movement of my
mouse and its not the mouse. The joystick works fine in either port
But the mouse won
What's this about a fuse?
Michael, I was having this problem. A fuse was blown on my motherboard. It
is lab labeled F1. Check pin number 7 on your mouse port it should have 5
volts on it C Check page F-4 in your manual. If you don't have 5 volts you
must replace the green fuse. This happened to me because I plugged in a
peripheral while my computer was on. good luck.
Done already. The schematic doesn't show inline fuses on that line. Can I
take it that all the 5v lines have an inline fuse. By the way, I blew mine
connecting the doorbell button (I leave the compute on 24 hours and my wife
wanted a doorbell, so I hooked up the
joystick fire button). works fine now
YOU ARE RIGHT. NOTHING ON THE SCHEMATICS. I LOOKED AT THE MOTHERBOARD AND
COUNTED ABOUT FOUR OF THEM. IN THE SERIAL AND PARALEL PORT AREAS. I AM GLAD
THEY WERE THERE. IT SAVED ME LOTS OF TIME AND MONEY.
F1 (1 amp micro fuse) controls the 5 volt line to your ports…it's right
behind port 0. Looks like a little green resistor.
