I have what I think is a relly basic question. I am planning on buying a
CR-ROM drive and I am a bit confused about what I need in the way of
software to read data from CD's. I use Windows pretty much exclusively and
have noticed alot of the CD-ROM drives come packaged with what appears to
be DOS interfaces. Does each disk use its own interface? Is there a
standard Windows interface that will access all CD titles? I gues what I
am asking is whether it is possible to access CD data through a Windows
interface only, and never through DOS. Thanks in advance for any help.

For good or ill, Yes, each CDROM product brings with it its own
interface/retrieval/presentation software. Some will run from Windows,
other will have to run under Windows. While there are a limted number of
vendors writing CDROM software, publishers work hard to make their
presentations unique, and it does seem (!) that each is different.
