#EMM386

Hi,
3DS doesn't run if EMM386 (DOS 5.0) is loaded. Would a memory manager
(386MAX) solve the problem ?
Will you have the new DOS extender in 2.1
Thanks,
JP
I'm not sure what you mean, since I've run 3DSr2 many times with EMM386 and
HIMEM.SYS. Your system may have some sort of incompatibility in it, which
should be solved by a memory manager like QEMM or 386MAX. The DOS extender
in 2.01 is the same as the one in 2.0… Phar Lap 2.6.

I was using 386MAX 6.02 on my 486 w/32 meg and was experiencing very
slow exiting from Autocad and 3DS. It took several minutes to get back to
the DOS prompt. Switching to QEMM took care of the problem.
Another machine (386 w/ 8meg) seems to be fine with 386MAX and
others I've spoken with haven't had the problem with up to 20meg so I never
did find what the trouble was.
Nobody seems to report any problems with QEMM, so take it for what
it's worth.
How's everything with the new family member in NYC?

Hi Ted,
I just bought 386NAX. I guess I'll try that first.
How about Superstor. Did you try that ?
See ya,

Like I say, JP, 386MAX only seems to cause problems with 32 megs. By
all means try it first, the problems aren't fatal. I've used it on other
machines for years and have been happy with it.
I've also been using SuperStor with DRDOS for a couple of years and
the only problem I've had is the machine locking up and turning the current
drive or partition into a read-only device. It's a pain in the neck because
the drive has to be reformated. But we have those up-to-date backups, don't
we <gggg>. Actually the last time it happened (3 of 3) I didn't have
backups on my current work but the files can be copied to diskette before
reformatting. DR/Novell doesn't have an answer to why it happens.
Say hello to everyone at Pratt for me.
