Hi David, Funnily enough I just received my 1200 this morning (go green <g>). Looks nice. Haven't had a chance to kickstart her up yet. Looks a bit weired, though. It is actually a bit longer than the A500 – but lacks the depth, of course, as it the depth is the same as the A600 (the joystick/mouse ports are back on the rear of the machine). Comes with an improved mouse (about time), 5 DOS disks, a 1200 user guide and Workbench 3.0 manual. Paul

Hi Dom, The mouse is more rounded in shape – it resembles a Logitech model (can't remember what it's called, now) and has the proper lively mouse button contacts used on all commercial mice (I've gone brain dead – I can't remember what they're called either) instead of the older leaf-spring/dead skin feel of the older Amiga model. Hi Dom, Haven't used the new mouse much but it's an improvement over the old one. I'm used to the Naksha mouse, myself (seen it?) which is just dandy. If you are after a mouse replacement I would target a third-party mouse supplier (such as the Naksha) every time. 99 times out of 100 these samples will always be better than Commodore stock items as these guys produce mice for a living and, thus, put that *bit* more effort into improving their model. Dom, I seem to recall you going through the mouse thing not too long ago. As the result of your investigation, I wound up with a Golden Image optical mouse. I recently retired this mouse in favor of the Logitech bus mouse with the DigiPrint interface. This is a terrific mouse. -Richard

Oh. I thought you had gone with the optical like I did. Actually not a bad mouse and still holding up but a little jerky. The DigiPrint interface costs about $10 and it allows you to connect any PC bus mouse to your Amiga. These mice have 400 dpi resolution. I got the logitech mouseman. It's a three button mouse and is sculpted in left or right handed versions. I don't know how it holds up in the long run or how often it needs cleaning since I just mine. I suspect that it collects less fuzz than Amiga mice because the ball is much smaller. The cord is 6' long. I run MachIV on my machine and had to turn the acceleration down. Bus mice aren't cheap. I had to get the PC card, MS Dos software etc with it. Maybe there is some way of just getting the mouse as a replacement part. -Richard

I'm running a no-name IBM bus mouse that came with a VGA Wonder card, via Digiprint interface. Works great.

Hi David, The problem with the A1200 is that the present software lacks much of the necessary code to take advantage of the new facilities. At the moment it acts purely as an accelaerated Amiga. So, imagine a 14Mhz 68020 with fast RAM stuck in an Amiga and there you go. No new software was bundled because nowt is available as yet. I'm trying to get demos/screens to give me some idea, though.
