Doesn't anyone know anything about the Texel 3024 or 5024, I hear it's
supposed to be much better than the NEC 74 or 84, but I've found very
only one vendor that sells it. Other than being slightly faster than
the NEC doesn't offer anything that the NEC doesn't. What are prices like?
Kenneth-
Great drive. I have a 3024 attached to a PAS-16 sound card. Super combo
and VERY fast.
I paid around $430 or so for the drive only with cable. You may need to
pay extra for driver if you are attaching it to an existing sound card with
SCSI interface.

Jerry,
Thanks for the info on the Texel cd-rom, I appreciate it.
Could you possibly give me the name of company (and their phone number)
that you bought it from, I'm having a hard time finding a distributor that
carries it.
Thanks,
Ken Trippel
Kenneth-
Happy to help.
Bought the drive from D-C-Drives. Phone is 800-872-6007. They advertise
extensively in Computer Shopper.

Kenneth,
In regards to the deal offered by DC Drives for the Texel 3024, be aware of
the external version they are selling is NOT the 5024. According to the
sales rep I talked to, it's actually just a 3024 drive with a case & power
supply they claimed to have come directly from Texel. Also the rep
mentioned that only the Pro Audio Plus works with their external 5024
drive. But when I contacted Texel, I was told that they don't offer such a
case & p.s. to any of their distributors and both the 3024 & 5024 works
with PAS 16 & PAS+.
So from what I can gather from the Texel people is that the external drive
DC Drives is selling is a bogus version of the 5024. I have to admit
though, the price for the 3024 they are selling sounds a.o.k.
If you live in California, I was told by Texel that there are quite a few
computer stores that carry their products. I don't know how much that will
help you in finding a source, but it's a start. However, if you are
looking for the internal drive by Texel, DC Drives seems to be the only
mail order company that carries it…Good luck.
I'm kind of wondering too why there has been so little written in the
magazines or discussions on CIS about the Texel drives. It seems to excel
the NEC drives in xfer rate (while possessing the same features as the NEC
74 & 84) and yet it's cheaper. Has anyone else have had any experience
with the drives?

Do you have a phone number for Texel? I inherited one (DM5020) in my job
and would like to get a hold of them. It's really maddening when you call
some makers of SCSI controller cards and they say they've never heard of
Texel.

Paul,
Thanks for the info. FYI, Hard Drives Int'l (aka Insight Computers)
sells the Texel 3024 but they sell it under their own brand name as
the Talon 200. There's a company called Ameritek [(714) 666-0210] that I
believe sells both the 5024 & 3024.
That's interesting info … is there anything 'wrong' with buying the drive
under the Talon label?
Thanks.

Paul-
Have a Texel 3024 coupled with a PAS-16. Absolutely delighted with the
combination. The setup was trouble free and the performance is great.
I bought mine from D-C Drives at what appears to be a pretty fair price
(~$430).
The reason why no one knows about them, apparently, is that they were
formerly an OEM supplier only. It's only been very recently that they've
decided to market their drives directly.
