On a New York City Photo CD press tour today we had a good experience. The
day started out with a CD-ROM drive supplied by a leasing company that was
definitely NOT Photo CD compatible.
We got in touch with a company on Long Island called Liuski's
(800-989-4600).
Liuski's sells a new Toshiba CD-ROM drive that is fully Photo CD
multi-session capable. It is in stock now for DOS/Windows systems for $599
+ $25 shipping = $624. It includes a SCSI controller card.
Liuski took our call this morning and had a CD-ROM drive in our hands by
11:00.
They will have a Mac compatible Toshiba drive soon, for $499 + $25 shipping
= $524.

Not sure if you can help but here goes…
I've seen the Photo CD players in stores and noticed several threads
talking about using CD-ROM drives as Photo CD players.
Question: Where can I get real technical details on what Photo CD is? What
it takes to get CD-ROMs (I have a NEC 84) to play Photo CDs? What photo
shops are participating in the conversion process? Costs associated with
the conversion?
Any direction would be appreciated…

You can call our technical staff, who are organized to help you configure
your system to use Photo CD discs.
Call the Kodak Information Center (KIC): 800-242-2424, ext. 53.
For information about where to get a Photo CD disc made (in the U.S.), call
the same KIC number, but go to extension 36.
Cost of transferring your images to Photo CD disc are set by the
photofinisher, not Kodak. In the consumer market, the cost is under $1 if
you have the disc made when you process the film, and $1.00 – $1.50 for
images already processed. In the professional market, the cost seems to be
about $3.00 per image.
