#GVP+Syquest88

Does anybody know how to get a Syquest drive to work with GVP's impact SCSI
controller? I have an A2000, Impact sII, External Syquest 88MB GVP's
Software does not see anything on that SCSI ID. I'm Thinking that my ROM on
the GVP is old, 2 years old.
Does anybody know if GVP has a BBS. I live overseas and telephone costs are
really expensive.
Edward,
Here is GVP BBS number 215-337-5815
I use a Series II controller with two Syquest 44MB drives a Conners fixed
disk and a Wangtek tape drive. No problems with any of the removables.
What ROM version do you have on the board? You may need to update to ROMs
that support removable media drives. Lower than 3.12s and you'll probably
need an update. IF you have this ROM version, than you need to use the
following command, after the SyQuest has spooled up to speed.
First, make sure the SyQuest SCSI ID number is an unique number, that it
is not the same ID as another drive on the buss.
Do you have the CLI command GVPSCSICTRL, it should be on the GVPINSTALL
disk. If you do, try issuing the command in a shell with the -r switch.
C:> GVPSCSICTRL -r
This will try and do a remount of any devices found on the SCSI buss by
the Series II controller. After issuing the command run FASTPREP and
select MANUAL than cursor through the ID List Gadgets for the SCSI ID of
the drive. If the Syquest info shows up prep the drive, using a partition
number of 1 and select AUTO.
Also, where is the termination on the buss? If you have an internal hard
drive and it is terminated, you may need to remove the terminator packs
from it and terminate the Syquest, or you may need to terminate BOTH!
Hope this helps,
Chris
Thanks for the info. I got it to work on one of my machines. The problem
was with the last disk was dh1 so it would not look further than that. I
unchecked it in fastprep and rebooted. On my second machine I still don't
see it. But I hope to fig figure it out later with the terminators
probably. C C
I too have GVP SII controller and a syquest 88MB drive (internal) I also
have old ROMS (2 yrs – v3.x) and everything works fine for me. I don't
have any idea what could be causing your problems….
