If a file extention is .LHA, what decompresser do I use? thanx Patrick

Download the file LHA138.RUN from Library 16 (Archivers). It is a
self-extracting file which contains the program "lha" and it's docs. It
will be able to deal with files ending in the .lha extension.

Put LHA in your C: directory. Now, when you type LHA all by itself from
anywhere on your system, you will be given a screen whose first line is
the command sequence.
If you have a file in ram: named filename.LHA, open a shell, CD to ram:
and then enter:
LHA x filename.LHA
Here's the command syntax:
Usage: LhA [-<options>] <command> <archive[.LZH/LHA/RUN]> [[homedir]
<filespec>…] [@file] [destdir]

Talking of LHA do you or anyone have Stephan Bobergs Internet address. I'd
like to contact him re the 100Sk bill and order I sent him in May this year
also the reminder. Both of which I have not had a reply to….yuk ending a
sentence with a preposition. Oh well 🙁
To be a bit pedantic about the current thread and putting LHA (or anything
else for that matter ) in C: C= and others have never recommended that. The
idea being that C: is for system stuff only. Better that LHA etc etc be put
either in Tools or Utilities and a path set up for those directories,
although they usually are from the startup-sequence anyway. Or better still
have an entirely separate directory for 3rd party utils and leave the
entire C= directories alone.
Just a thought.

I agree with your suggestion/observation/recommendation of just where
non-C= commands should reside… It is all too easy to litter the C:
directory with so many programs/commands that it becomes difficult to root
out the original C= supplied directory! I think it was Denny Atkin that
detailed a pretty elegant way of placing all of your add on stuff in a
separate directory (or maybe that was with regard to placing mount
commands somewhere other than in the User-Startup). In any case, gaining
an understanding of the PATH command can certainly go a long way in
helping a user keep things organized on a hard drive!
That being said <g>, for the new user just learning to grapple with how to
execute ANY command from the CLI, _and_ trying desparatly to unpack the
first xxx.LHA program they have ever downloaded, instructing them to place
LHA in the C: directory, IMO is a forgivable sin. And on ethat is easly
corrected for when a greater understanding of the system and how it works
is gained.
As far as Stephan Boberg goes… I sent my shareware fee about the same
time you did, and have yet to hear anything in return. <sigh>

You are not alone in trying to contact Stefan 🙁
Twice since June, I and others who frequent another network (GEnie) have
been trying in vain to contact or elict ANY kind of response from Stefan
in regards to hundreds of dollars of registration monies sent as far back
as last April. So far he has not answered countless letters/messages or
sent registerd LhA disks to any of us.
If anyone does contact him I hope they'll let him know that there are a
few of here in the U.S. who hope HE enjoyed HIS summer vacation with OUR
money!!

I have a directory I call C2 for everything that didn't come from Commodore
and have the path to it set in user-startup. Works great, and I think it
is really better than cluttering up the c: directory with all these things.
Guess I'm just saying I agree with you.
BTW – you coming to DevCon in Jan?

Coming to the DevCon? I should be so lucky. Have you seen the price of the
hotels and then add the flight charges etc etc. Sorry no way I can afford
that at the moment. I think the bank might have something to say if I did
🙁 I'd like to though.
