I just read a great review in Amiga mag. about The Editizer(Oct. 1992
page 38, middle column). From the way it sounds, it is the answer to your
prayers. Question: do you use the Sony RC time-code, or have you
found a way around this to get frame accurate editing any info would be
greatly appreciated!!

Jon,
I've been using the RC time code to render animations in single-frame
fashion. Other than that, I'm just getting my suite set up, and have
been waiting to find editing equipment to decide just how to handle the A/B
roll editing. Since I've already ordered the Editizer, looks like I'll be
using the SMPTE generator and reader built into that system.

What VCR are you using?? Are you renting or buying? Single frame
VCR's are a bloody fortune, some prices I got where 4900.00 to
6000 at the minumum(but good news..I just read in the Nov. issue
of Amiga mag. of JPEG's new Digital EditMaster capible of single
frame storage without needing a single frame recorder page 8
-do you know anything about this…any advice tips, etc. you can share
would be appreciated….thanks…Jon

I'm using a Sony EVO-9650, and I paid $4395 for it. It interfaces directly
with Lightwave, without needing a single frame controller.
I got my editing system in yesterday, and got it hooked up and going today.
I went with the TAO Editizer, which can be bought for a little under $1900,
complete with all the proprietary cables you'll need to get everything
hooked up. I'll have to say that it was SUPER simple to get up and going
with my equipment, including communicating with and controlling the
Toaster, directly from Windows on my 386 PC. Let me know if you want more
info.

Thank you so much for replying to my querries. My Wife and I are starting a
Video Production service here in Walnut Creek to do weddings and
documentaries etc. I am basically starting out with the Siny v5000, SLVR5,
and RME700, along with the Toaster. What applications are you doing with
your equitment?? It sounds like your ready for some serious aniamation at
the very least……I hope we can keep in touch to share trade secrets etc.

Hi. I wanted to reply cuz of the equipment you have. I have the Sony
SLVR5 to use as a duplication source machine going to a Distribution
amplifier which in turn goes to 10 cheapy 4 head machines. We are shooting
Hi-8 editing down to 3/4 SP and then to S VHS masters.
My question – Are you satisfied with your Sony S VHS HiFi machine. I am
not sure mine is working as clean as it could be. I seem to be loosing to
much resolution in the duplication process. I have been trying to find out
if a TBC would help somewhere in my system also.
Oh yeah, I have had about 2 weeks on our new toaster and am looking for any
materials that would help to get me up to speed.

Glenn, Your going from a high SN/Line Resolution to a much lower one in
going to 3/4SP, then through a DA with it's own set of specs, then back to
a high SN/line resolution. The quality is limited to the quality of the
weakest link. Probably the DA. I would hope that you are in the 688 or
component mode while editing, if not add more quality loss. Your time base
correction should occur in the edit. A good source of info is the

I'm starting the same kind of service, but hope to pick up some jobs doing
custom animations and such, as well.
I'll stay on here for sure; I've learned a lot from these guys.
