#CDROM Virus
3 messages in this thread
I purchased a new PC with a CDROM installed. One piece of software
included was "Bratannica Family Choice" When I attempted to run one of the
programs I got a virus warning from Nortin Intercept. I ran a virus scan on
the disk and Norton anti-virus reported MtE infection of Body.com,
Grammer.com, Maze.com & States.com Has anybody else found a virus on this
CDrom? This is the first time I've ever found an infected file on my 3+
years on DOS systems. Is this unusual for a CDRom program?
It would'nt be the first time that a CD-ROM was published with a Virus on it.
I would call the retailer where you bought the system and warn them. As well
as who ever makes that CD-ROM. Alot of people don't bother with Virus
protection software, so many will not be as lucky as you in detecting it.

FWIW, this is the first example of an infected disc reaching the
marketplace in at least four years! I'd be interested in knowing the
publisher and exact name of the disc and any other info (like a phone
number or address) that you can pull off the disc. If you don't want to
call them, I will, but I would like to refer them to you for more info.
Any responsible publisher will want to know about this problem and take
some action about it. If you wish to respond by e-mail, please do.
This is precisely the kind of problem publishers join the OPA to deal with.
I don't want to be the quality cop for every product, but this is an issue
we can't let go. Let me know ASAP.
Thanks for your efforts and interest.
