I try to send a fax with my wordprocessor Excellence! and GPFax and a
suprafaxmodem. I obtain a message " no printer " and the printing process
stops. I have no printer but I have selected the printer.device option in
GPFax, GPFax is launched too. The printer driver is HP-Laserjet ( I have
tried with others ). If you known why I can't use my fax please post a mail
!

If you have no printer…turn it off under the 'Options' menu. GPFax
is trying to talk with a printer to set it up and is not getting much
success if you don't have one connected. See page 34 of the GPFAX manual
for more info.

I received GPFax last week and am already enjoying this GREAT program.
As with all programs, I want to dive right in… Before I received GPFax,
I collected all messages pertaining to GPFax. There was one simple
message which helped me dive in.
Are you doing this? :
run GPFax.
Iconify it.
run Excellence.
When you are finished with your text, print the text from
Excellence. Since GPFax is running in the background, the text will
be automatically converted into a FAX. (You do not want to put the
GPFax print driver in your preference…)
When you un-iconify GPFax, your fax will listed in the GPFax/FaxOut
drawer. You can view it, Fax it, etc..
I also have a SuprFax modem, GPFax and an HP Laserjet printer. I don't
know if the having "no printer" is important but I leave my printer off
and there is no problem.

message I've seen advocate that. I don't, but then I usually type a
message and sent it right away. I also have printer on, but of course if
GPFax is running the files go to FaxOut, so there is no problem.
Great program, isn't it? The only trouble I have is getting a cover page
out of PPage. I did it once (have a great cat picture) but can't seem to
repeat it. GPFax tells me there is binary in file and I get nothing. Also
1 page faxes always have 2 pages, the 2nd being blank. I think that is a
known bug.

I only use PPage as the source for all my fax work with GPFax. There is a
beta version of a new patch (for those of us who purchased GPFax with the
SupraFaxModem), it fixes the problem of that second blank page and the
viewer now works so that you see all of the page! There is a beta version
of the patch for the stand alone software out there, also there should be
a final patch u/l'd here at some point by Supra.
BTW have you tried to print through PPage that cover page, perhaps somehow
it got converted to binary.

I thought all those patches were not official Supra, so I'm waiting. I
just delete the 2nd page, no problemo.
The PPage problem is a mystery. I know I made a beautiful cover page
importing an IFF file from DPaint. After that I could not repeat the feat.
I have printed that cover page through PPage, but that shouldn't change
anything, and I have tried other designs with same results. Plain or fancy
text is no problem. Sent a great birthday greeting with a typeface that
looked like bones.

The Patches are beta versions from the authors of GPFax, I haven't had any
problems using them. I also have been using both bitmaps and structured
artwork in my PPage/GPFax documents. Here's what I do.
My Amiga Prefs defaults to the parallel port for the printer on startup.I
turn on the GPFax printer driver by selecting "prt driver" in the GPFax
printer options. On the PPage side I select my output as dot matrix; with
final/grey scale/correction & density at 216,196 (noting that the
GPFAX.DRIVER is the current driver). The draft mode, instead of final,
will give you a X'd box instead of the graphic (I just tried that out).

Thanks. Will look for Patch in Supra lib and try. As I said I did do _one_
great PPage bitmap graphic and haven't been able to repeat the feat. BTW
did you send program registration to Australia? There was none to send to
Supra, unless the medem registration covers it.

I quess the modem registration took care of it, perhaps you could post the
question to Supra.

There is no reason to Iconify GPFax. The important thing is that GPFax be
running and that the printer driver patch has been loaded (either when
GPFax starts up or when selected before starting your program that you wish
to print from. From your program, you must select the prefs or graphics
printer and your prefs printer can be any printer set for parallel.
(Serial printers will not be patched correctly.)

I have changed my Printer Preferences from Serial to Parallel and now my
Fax is working with Excellence! Thanks to all for your help.

I'm not sure I know what you're talking about "The printer driver patch
has been loaded"? What "patch"? Something new? I know how to use GPFax and
how to print from my programs.

Yes I too am for some unknown reason faxing 2 pages, on being blank.
I agree that GPFax is great! I have amazed many friends and family
(acquainted with computers). For instance, after we went over to Mom and
Dad's for Thanksgiving, I set the "Schedule" to transmit a "Happy
Thanksgiving" fax right before dinner. It was great watching everyone's
look on their faces when the fax came over the lines.
I am interested in how you created the unusual cover sheet. (the cat).

I scanned a snapshot of my big b&w tom cat's head (he's gorgeous) in with
Epson 300 and made it into line art in ADPro, saved it in Dpaint and
imported it to Ppage, added cover text and "printed" to GPFax. Haven't
been able to repeat that feat.
I love your Thanksgiving story. I only have 2 friends with home business
faxes so I can't have too much fun with it.
I just delete blank page when I set up a fax to send. It is a know bug, I
think.
Have you installed new chips in Supra? If so any problems?
I never Iconify! So there.
