Old MegaChip?
5 messages in this thread
Hello! I just acquired a DKB MegaChip 2000. I bought it used in perfect,
untouched, good as new shape. However, the board is probably a few years
old. It's copy righted 1990, and it's Rev. C. IS this the latest? If
not, what would it cost to upgrade? If it's not the latest, what was it
upgraded for? Bugs? I still have the registration card.
Much thanks!
Miguel
Miguel,
The major reason we upgraded the board is that the original board would
only fit into the A2000. The later version was intended to fit the A500
and CDTV. As it happens, we were able to make it fit in the A2000 too, so
we replaced the large through hole board with the surface mounted for all
machines. We have recently changed the design again to accomadate a
different type of DRAM, but there have been no functional changes
throughout the entire life of the MegAChip. The only reason you might have
to upgrade is if you bought the first version and need to install it into
an A500 or CDTV, or have some other addon that conflicts with the first
version of the MegAChip in your A2000.
Get me the serial number of the MegAChip and I'll let you know if it is
the latest version. As for the upgrade cost, I'll have to check that at
the office tomorrrow.

Thanks for the quick reply. The serial # is MC10087. I'd like to upgrade
the board no matter what, I'm sure it won't be too much and I always prefer
the latest and the greatest (I bet CBM loves hearing that!)
Thanks again!
Miguel
Miguel,
The upgrade cost to the newest version of the MegAChip is $150.00. This
includes a new board, Agnus, and all shipping costs. If you would EMAIL me
your complete address and phone number, I'll get you an RA number to put
on the old MegAChip when you return it.
