I've been having some weird problems with a Targa+. I'm using SoftVTR to record to a Sony Digital Betacam deck which works quite nicely. But, in almost every animation I lay down there is a pixel shift to the right. Basically, the whole image shifts and stays there. On the Vscope there is also a phase shift resulting in a little color distortion. I think that the Targa is giving me problems. Also, yesterday I layed down a short 45 frame sequence which was fine with no shift. I then brought up the last frame so our editor could record some stills and it was shifted one pixel right and phase. It was the exact same frame though, and was brought up the same way – with gettga. If anyone has experienced this problem I'd sure appreciate some insight as it is making things much more difficult than they need to be. Currently we have to run the anim through the ADO to correct for the image shift. 🙁 Thanks DM

I have had the same H-shift problem when xfering to tape. Now, I make sure that I genlock my Targa+ to house reference. Apply the same sync source the VTR is getting to the input of the T+. I use "TARGEDIT genlock 1" from DOS to make sure it syncs. If the T+ is not genlocked it seems to just drift and stay that way until it drifts again, even after rebooting. Also, if your not running the T+ output through a framesync, you can use TARGSHOW from the DOS prompt to "correct" the H-blanking parameters of your T+. It's kinda cryptic on what each register does but, a good video engineer and a waveform will help out. Hope this helps, it's helped me… Paul

Wow, thanks a bunch Paul. I think it's exactly what I needed. There's so much I need to learn about the video world yet. I'll let you know how it goes. DM
