#midi interfaces

Any opinions on the best midi interface out there? I have a 3000 and
would actually like to have an internal midi interface but it seems
there aren't anany that are just a midi interface. I would definately
need a pass thru for my modem, but an in and out for midi would
probably be ok. If internal, it would have to be recognizable by
Deluxe Music 2.0 as well as other midi programs.

The ECE MIDI interface plugs in the serial port and has a switchable
pass-thru for your modem. I think "Golden Hawk" made an internal interface for
the A2000, A3000 systems.

I second the ECE MIDI interface as a basic unit. It has In/Out/Thru
and a serial passthrough with front panel switch. However, if you get
the Blue Ribbon One-Stop sound card, it has a built-in MIDI
interface. In addition, you can get the Triple Play Plus from Blue
Ribbon, which has 3 separately addressable MIDI outs for a total of
48 MIDI channels; however there is no passthrough. You can also get
the One-Stop/Triple Play Plus combo, which gives you the Proteus
sound card with a built-in internal Triple Play Plus MIDI interface.
Dominick The triple play sounds interesting. I assume it is an internal card?
Or is it tied to the serial port? If internal, my serial port would still be
open for modem use, but, will Deluxe Music recognize it and at least utilize
one of the midi ports? (I don't think it would recognize and utilize all three
as that would have to be a part of the program?)

Triple Play Plus is available in two versions. There is an
external version that connects to the serial port, but it has no
passthrough, so you'd have to unplug it to use your modem. The
internal version is only available as part of the One-Stop Music
Shop, which is a Proteus soundcard from Blue Ribbon. With the
internal version, your serial port would still be free for other
uses. With either version, you can use MIDI IN and MIDI Out 1 with
any program that supports MIDI. As you guessed, MIDI Out 2 and MIDI
Out 3 are only available for programs that support them, such as all
the Blue Ribbon products. I've heard other programs may support them
in the future.
Dominick, Thanks for the info. It's too bad that the internal is only
available with the one-stop music shop. I have the Proteous II and
if I wanted the Proteous I sounds, I would rather get them in the
external unit. Thanks again for the info!

No problem. However, please be aware that the One-Stop Music Shop is
NOT a duplicate of the Proteus/1 sounds. I already had the Proteus/1 when
I got the One-Stop. Plus, unless you are going to perform onstage, I feel
the One-Stop is better than the rackmount, since the included editing
software is fantastic.
