#Buying a starter Toaster

I'm thinking of getting into the Video Toaster (specifically my interest is in Lightwave). I've called a couple of places and found that one is offering the following two systems: A2000 030 25Mhz accelerator w/math coprocessor 4mg RAM 100mg HD memory card allowing an additional 128mg RAM $650 A3000 030 25Mhz tower w/math coprocessor 5mg RAM 200mg SCSI $1150 Does anyone have any thoughts on which might be better? I'm concerned that if I add the Toaster card and another (such as the Personal Video card to play animations from HD) that I won't have any slots left on the A2000. Is this a valid concern? Does the Toaster use one of the "regular" slots or the video slot? Also, when I make renderings with lightwave is the 24bit output on a regular TV screen (NTSC output right)? Any additional comments you can offer would be extremely appreciated. Thanks Joe Stratmann

I have a friend who has a Toaster system for sale. It's an A2000 with GVP's 25Mhz 68030, some huge hard drive (not sure the size). With the Toaster, hard card, and accelerator installed, you still have 4 Amiga slots (Zorro 2) and two PC-type slots. I believe there are TBCs and DAs that can utilize those PC slots. Believe it or not yer probably better off with the A2000 since it still has 68040 Accelerators available for it whereas the A3000 doesn't seem to have any floating around. You will probbaly want them to add in MEGACHIP to give yer A2000 2 megs of Chips ram. I believe the 2000 also hasa beefier Power Supply than the 3000

Plus- A 2000 with a 68040 is 2.05 times faster than a 4000. With the 64 bit busses and interleaving available on the new 040s the speed can go much higher, compared to a 4000. –Paul < Motorola Inside >

Joe, The Toaster goes in the video slot so does not use one of the "regular" slots. I have a Toaster. DPS TBCIII, 2Meg Ram board, GVP 030 board adn GVP hard drive controller in my 2000. And plan to add the PAR. Don't know about slots in the 3000. If you go with the 2000 you will want to add DKB's Megachip to give you 2Megs chip ram. BTW. I have a Toaster 2000 board with latest (3.0) software for $1000 including shipping and some tutorial videos if you're interested.
