3DO development?

I have recently gotten interested in the 3DO machine and was
wondering if anyone here was looking into it. I got a document named
"Becoming a 3DO Software Licensee" from Panasonic and got some bad
news. The development must be done on a MAC, the document says. Does
anyone know if they are going to have a development package for the
"real" world <g>.
Albert, I called 3DO several days ago, to find out info, but had to
leave a message and haven't heard anything back yet. I know that a
couple of companies, like Trilobyte and Crystal Graphics are using
Animator Pro/3D Studio to develop 3DO titles, so there must be a
way…. Any chance you could fax me a copy of that document you have?
I'm starved for 3DO info, & would love to take a peak at yours. If
you get a chance, my fax is 714/366-1983. I bought a Panasonic 3DO
last week and am absolutely in love with it. I have a feeling that it
will really change the multimedia delivery landscape.

Sorry, I do not have a FAX but, I assume, you can get it from the same source
as mine.

What titles did you get for it? How many titles are there?
When I first heard about it, I got the impression that the thing was designed
to work with interactive cable, later, as well as CD-ROM immediately. Any
comments? What kind of store or source did you get your 3DO?

I did get a return call from 3DO yesterday afternoon. Gene, the
developer relations lady, said that they had a developers kit
available for $8000. It does sound like it's Macintosh-based, but I'm
sure it can include FLC type stuff also. She is sending me info in
the mail now.
I purchased my unit (Panasonic MultiPlayer REAL) at an electronics
store called Main Street Electronics in the Main Place Mall, Santa
Ana, California. I called about 10 places that had it, but they all
wanted the retail price – $699. I purchased mine for $559. If you
call 1-800-REAL-3DO, they will connect you with a dealer near you.
The unit came with Crash-N-Burn, a road race game. I noticed that one
of the artists was Gene Bodio, who does alot of 3DStudio work, so I
know there is some involvement there. There are only a few titles out
now, but over a 100 are expected by Christmas.

I hope that I will not make you feel bad but I called my local video dealer
and he had a suggestion. He says that it would be better if I waited for the
Pioneer 3DO machine because it would be much better. I did not get the full
details but it seems that the Panasonice 3DO machine was in a hurry to be first
to the market.

I'm just guessing here, Albert, but it *could* be that the Pioneer
unit will ship with the new MPEG option that the Panasonic lacks at
this moment. I also understand that the Panasonic unit will be
upgradable to the MPEG option.
