#Vistapro 3.0 & 3ds
12 messages in this thread
Has anyone out here in Cserve 3ds whoville <g> used the Vistapro 3.0
software to create background files? I also hear from a
(qualified?, non- 3ds) source that you can produce animated fly
throughs out to targa, gif, etc., does anyone know if this is so?
JD
Yes, it is true. You can use VistaPro to create backgrounds or
animated maps that can be used within 3DStudio.

Being the author of Vistapro, my opinion is somewhat biased, but…
Vistapro does generate landscapes that make good backgrounds for 3DS
and it can generate fly throughs in both TGA and PCX formats. It
also comes with tools to join the PCX files into FLC animations.
If you want to try the program out, there is a largely functional demo
version in DL15 of GraphAVen (GO GRAPHAVEN or GO VRLI). You can't
load or save anything but it'll give you some idea of it's
capabilities.
Coming in early December is version 3.10 which will include the
ability to save landscapes as DXF objects, save texture maps
(suitable for mapping onto the DXF landscapes), and a utility to
convert 3DS VUE files into Vistapro's script format. That last
feature gives you the ablitity to generate a sequence of TGA files as
backgrounds for your 3DS foregrounds — with the exact same camera
positions and orientations. 3.10 will also come with a CD-ROM full
of landscapes, sample images and animations, etc.
Sound real cool; sign me up.
I'll make an official annoucement here when Vistapro 3.1 is available.
Hope you all like it….

Vistapro 3.1 sounds REAL cool! Do you know if there is going
to be a upgrade for VP3.0 users?
I think VRLI plans to charge their usual upgrade price ($45) for
Vistapro 3.0 to 3.1 — maybe even less since it's only a decimal
point change in the version number. I'll post an official
announcement here when 3.1 is ready…
I have a real early version of VP. How do I get an upgrade ??
And seeing your the author let me take the opportunity to compliment you on a
fine and well thought out product.

If your Vistapro is older than about 7 months old you must have 1.0
(there never was a 2.0 on the PC). If you liked 1.0 you're gonna
love 3.0 or 3.1. VRLI has been charging $45 for the upgrade from 1.0
to 3.0. My guess is they'll charge you the same for 1.0 to 3.1! I'll
post the official announcement here when Vistapro 3.1 is ready to
ship…
Jim:
I'll send you a list with all of the upgrade info. Include your
serial number with your upgrade request.

Since I left my inquery here on the forum I have found out we had a
copy of version 3.0 here in the office all along. I installed it on
my system and WOW!, it is a great graphics tool. I eagerly await the
next version you mention. All I need now is an extra 24 hours in my
day, now that I have Vistapro and 3ds"r3" to play with (everybody is
expecting great and marvelous things from our department now).
