<<I'm using VIBRANT for all the drivers in the 3ds vibcfg except for rendering which has RDPADI but lists the Cirrus Logic at the 24 bit resolution.>> You should be able to use the VESA Compatible mode of the Vibrant drivers to access the Cirrus Logic board. Why do you need RCPADI?? Also, have you tried getting a copy of a VESA driver from your board manufacturer or Cirrus?

Brian, >> Why do you need RCPADI?? << The drivers that came with my Cirrus Logic for 3DS are implemented with RCPADI. So of course I tried them as I couldn't get my VESA TSR to work with the Vibrant drivers. I am able to use the Vibrant drivers and they work well but they are not compatible with my VESA TSR driver for the Cirrus which I need for a DOS application. I can use the VESA compatible drivers supplied by Vibrant but the materials editor is limited to 256 colors, which in unacceptable, and it is also not compatible with my VESA TSR. If the Vibrant drivers are not comaptible with the VESA standard calling the manufacturer and obtaining new drivers will not solve the problem. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I am using a CD5426 based video card. I had problems with its built in VESA modes until I obtianed a ROM upgrade from Cirrus. I don't know if that is your problem but I downloaded the ROM image from the CIRRUS BBS and burned my own EPROM. The also have a software driver version of the same. The BBS number is (510) 440-9080

Nathan – Very interesting about your burning your own EPROM. I don't know enough about these boards (5422) to know what makes sense. I know I need a TSR to activate the VESA so that it runs with Leadview 2.0 I've heard some cards have their own VESA bios and don't need a TSR. How and in what configuration are you using your 5426 with 3DS? If you don't need a TSR to run it in VESA mode that would seem to explain why it works for you. Thanks for the input. -JE

I am using the cirrus drivers from Panecea which I downloaded from the Cirrus BBS. That did not require the use of the VESA modes or drivers. The VESA modes would not work at all (in either AAPRO or 3DS) until I used the BIOS upgrade. I tried the software version and that solved my problem at the cost of 32K of high ram, so I burned an EPROM at work(w/ a little help from someone who knows how to do such things…). You might want to try calling the BBS and see what you can find…

Nathan – Thanks again. I am able to use VESA with the univesa driver just fine, outside of 3DS R3. Like you I had Panacea drivers for R2 which also worked just fine. If you burned your own E-prom that's great but isn't really a solution. What I need is a VESA driver that doesn't conflict with the Vibrant drivers in R3. Are you using VESA mode in R3 or Vibrant drivers? If you're using VESA what about the materials library? -JE

Well….My R3 upgrade is still on order….Ahem…Hopefully I will not have the same troubles as you are expirencing…..

Nathan – Martin F. has the same board you do and apparently is having no problems using univesa but I'm not sure how he has it configured. I downloaded all the drivers that seemed applicable and the VESA driver that Cirrus supplies does not do resolutions of 640x480x24. So I'm back to square 1, but thanks for the info. -JE
