> After fiascos with OS/2 What kind of fiascos? I've been using 3DSR3 under OS/2 for a week now, and have never even thought of booting DOS to use 3DS. Response is good, and I *love* the ability to switch to another program while working (usually to free up more disk space! 🙂 Could you describe your problems? So far my only complaint is that the hardware lock prevents any other program from printing until I exit 3DS (they just spool). — Doug Azzarito

OS/2 problems? Where do I start? Well, first off, I can't be too hard on it because when it worked it was great! The problems I did have included CD-ROM, SVGA, unrecognized .EXE files, no device drivers, etc, etc. I tried V2.1, but found that it won't run off my SCSI board (AIC 6360) – which is basically the same as a Adaptec 1522 but, still, no go. Big system hang ven before the config.sys file. The work around was to use a generic IBM device driver, but then I would lose all use of my CD-ROM. So I gave up. When I spend more time dicking around with the operating system than I do working, I know it's time to go back to go old boring DOS. At least it works (most of the time). I'm now looking forward to Windows 4.0, hoping for the smae power of OS/2 (read co-operative multitasking). You're right – being able to render and go off somewhere else is a dream… Maybe next year <g>

> it won't run off my SCSI board (AIC 6360) That's ADAPTEC nailing you. They look for THEIR controller, not a "compatible" one. If it doesn't say adaptec on the label, the driver won't work. Doesn't AIC have anyone who can write a driver? Heck, if they'd get the OS/2 Device Driver Toolkit, they'd get the source to the Adaptec driver, and it would take a couple of days to make theirs work. > I'm now looking forward to Windows 4.0, hoping for Gee, I'll bet last year you said, "I'm waiting for NT." Meanwhile, I've been using OS/2 for about 3 years, and LOVE it (I'm rendering a 400 frame 640×480 flic right now!)

<<Gee, I'll bet last year you said, "I'm waiting for NT." Meanwhile, I've been using OS/2 for about 3 years, and LOVE it>> Actually, I've never been looking forward to NT – way too big, and it'll squash by little desktop. Maybe one day, if it takes the UNIX graphics market (so they predict). But I did use OS/2 on my other computer and it was good! Not great, but good. And I hate you – rendering in the background – how rude! <g>
