James,
You know I can get into it also. I don't have anything against Rush. I'm not a
fan, but I think he's served an important function in the political process
whether I agree with him or not. And probably on alot of fundemental issues
like taxes defense etc. I do.
Anyway what I find interesting is the two candidates that I would vote for are
Phil Grahame and Sam Nunn. If they both ran, it would be the first time in my
political history were I think it would be a win/win, instead of a lesser of
two evils. So I guess you can draw your own conclusions from that. I'm sure I
don't know what it means, except that they're two fine men who would serve the
country well. Pretty simple huh?
John
Thank you John,
I wish I had the time to get in to a more in-depth discussion about this
because I am a serious student of the Christian History of the Constitution and
Christian Self-Government…however I'm not prepared to spend the amount of
time, right now, that it would take to open up this discussion wider.
Well maybe just a little, << BG >>:
For example I would hope that you could agree with me that Self-prepetuating
bodies weaken local self-government.
I beleive _that_ (self prepetuating bodies).. is what has been taking place for
many many years (at the fedral & local level) and only just now do I see a
possibility of this being reversed.
I think it's a great credit to the talent on this forum that many of us have a
great sense of history as well as a vision for the future.
One of the many reasons to watch and listen to much of what takes place here.
Murph'
James,
I saw your message about your interest in Christian History, are you pro or
con?
That is, are you wanting to know more about Christian History because you
like to know how our founding fathers intended this nation to be founded on the
Word of God. Or are you looking at it as a critic looking for weaknesses the
way History is being re-written. Former I hope.
And, if the former is true, I share your interests. I haven't heard the
term self-perpetuating bodies applied to federal and local governments before.
Where did you catch on to that, Rush?
I agree that government's objective has seemed to be justifying itself and
building a need for its power rather than empowering the private sector to
reduce it's need on such governing and meddling.
Wow, how did we get into this in ASOFT. Tell me, what do you see as a
possible way of furthering the new grass-roots conservative agenda in the
Multimedia market.
Be talkin to ya,
Eddy
Eddy,
>>> I haven't heard the term self-perpetuating bodies applied to federal and

This predates Rush Limbough by many years…<BG> in fact it's a condensation of
the development of the idea of local self-government dating back to the
American colonies (1607 to 1732).
I'm referring to "the Mayflower Compact 1620".
>>> Tell me, what do you see as a possible way of furthering the new
grass-roots conservative agenda in the Multimedia market. <<<
Pretty skilled in your wording there….<BG>
Actually I'm not for _any_ "AGENDA"…..
It's pretty simple: Number 1: I want the "Government" (in all it's forms) Out
of my life forever.
Number 2: I beleive that the more we all can directly talk to each other over
these type of mediums CompuServe, Internet, Etc., the better off we all will
be. Sure we're gonna' disagree on things, but no one will be filtering out the
"information".
That's the important point.
I have nothing but disdain for the MainStream Liberal Media as well as the
Right Wing Minority Media.
How many of us Subscribe to "Republic" _AND_ "Nation".<g>
I like the free exchange of Ideas but will not put up with anyone trying to
bully their opinion as if it's gospel.
You may have caught my response to Albert in the Hardware section, however to
keep this short I'd like to see the principals upon which this country was
founded upon and the "Spirit" not the Letter of the Law upheld!
I'm sick of seeing good laws used for a bad purpose as well as Lawyers whom I
consider the blood suckers of society propogating themselves to the degradation
of this wonderful form of Christian Self-Government.
That's about as excited as I'm going to get right now….<BG>.
Murph'
Hey Murph'
>> I would hope that you could agree with me that self-prepetuating bodies
weaken local self-government. <<
Is that "perpetuating"? <g> I thought about it and then realised that you can
take that two ways, and then I understood what you were getting at.
Government is self perpetuating in the sense that it needs to continue, but
what you're expressing is that government should not be self perpetuating, in
that it continues to grow, or in the sense that it is only looking out for its
own best interest.
And of course this is a complex issue especially in the context of Christianity
and the Constitution. (Which BTW you might be interested in a very good book
of the same name by John Eidsmoe – Baker Publishing)
The two most influential proponents of "self perpetuating" government (see what
I mean about slippery to define), where Abraham Linconln and Franklin
Roosevelt. And that really does show the magnitude and complexity of the issue.
There was total anarchy under the Article of Confederation and had the
Constitution had an anti-slavery provision (which equated to a states rights
issue) it never would have been ratified. But as a result we later had a civil
war. The worst in history.
That being said how do I answer your question? Ideally a government neither too
strong or too weak, but that is also dependent on the circumstances in which it
finds itself. Some would agrue that a national government and a state
government is a redundancy and double taxation as well.
So we'd have to chomp through a lot of ground to come to a serious consensus on
our interpretation of "self-perpetuating" government. I hate clever answers but
you got one anyway, because its a very complicated issue and I don't know how
you avoid it when you broach the subject.
FWIW I don't find state government any better, so I'm not sure transferring
power there is the answer either.
So you can slap me silly <g> but that's the best answer I can give you.:-)
BTW not to change the subject but how familiar are you with the Ill Pro?
Martin's been asking some questions and I don't want to lead him astray, which
is why I ask. I've got the CAV board too which seems to overide the RGB
function which affects the resolution switching, which was one of his
questions. This board is about 3 times more complicated than a Targa to fully
fathom, and its got so many different configuration possibilities.. well I
think you get my point.
Thanks,
John
John,
The real Goal of "Government" is to make itself less and less necessary.
on the Ilum-Pro Board.
Great Board, Yes it can be a pain to set up but worth it.
I don't really have a lot of experience with the CAV option. Only one of my
clients ever ordered it and they're an R&D House so I didn't even have to show
up to install it. Of Course they got a good price because of it.<BG>
Sorry.
Murph'
Murph,
>> The real goal of "Government" is to make itself less and less necessary.
I'll buy that! Now all you've got to do is sell the idea to Government. <g>
On the Ill Pro, it really hasn't been a pain to setup, its just quite a bit
more complex because of its versatility. I just wondered if it could be run in
640×480 in CAV mode but I think the CAV board overides it. I figured this out
by taking it out. <g> I'm still a little confused about what modes Windows runs
in, but I guess if Martin's really interested he can find out.
Thanks for your input.
John

At first I thought you wanted them to run as a ticket <g> but you mean
against each other. But while Phil G. *might* be able to get the Republican
nomination, Sam N. has *NO* chance of getting the Democratic nomination and I
don't think he has any intention of seeking it anyway. Why do I say that?
Because Sam N. is far to conservative for the nominating process of the
Democrats which is still controlled by the various liberal factions.
Now if you want Phil G. to win (if nominated), have the Democrats nominate
Dick Gebhart and the whole country will vote AGAINST Dick out of absolute panic
<g>, just like they voted against George McGovern. Nothing tricky about that
<g>!
Hi Albert,
Its been awhile since we've exchanged perspectives.
I hadn't thought about it that way and you're probably right. In this political
climate, Mr. Nunn would have the best chance of pulling it off with the voters
I think. Whether or not that is true. I admire the man alot. Real solid but not
overbearing. To tell you the truth I don't think Phil Grahame has a chance
either although they say he's got a really well organised campaign going. I
think of it this way, the run for the Presidency is a beauty contest, so pretty
boy Quayle has a better chance of getting nominated, which would insure the
re-election of Clinton. That to me is a more likely scenario just because I
can't stand either one. <g>
And just to be opinionated, I think they ought to lock Bob Dole up in the
Senate for the duration. He makes a great Senate Crumudgeon! <BG>
John
>> … Mr. Nunn would have the best chance of pulling it

I am not sure I agree but don't strongly disagree.

In my opinion, Dan Quayle has no chance for the Republican nomination. But
if he runs, I would ask him how to spell President. Do you think he would say
that it has an e on the end?<g> (like in South America, El Presidente <g>).
>> …ought to lock Bob Dole up in the Senate for the duration.
>> He makes a great Senate Crumudgeon! <BG>
Just for the record, it is more like Curmudgeon, though I don't have a good
dictionary. But on a scale of crotchety, a guy named Robert Byrd would be a 10
whereas Dole would be a 5 or 6 by comparison, at least that is what I have
heard. Byrd is from West Virginia and was Senate Majority leader for a while.
But look on the bright side, the first term in the 21st century will
undoubtedly be held by President GingerItch.
>> In my opinion, Dan Quayle has no chance for the Republican nomination.
Well he's #2 behind Dole; and I'm not sure Dole wants to give up his Senate
majority leadership seat.
Yes I do know of the Distinguished Senator from West Virginia, he's a favorite
personality. But I think Metzenbaum from Ohio has got him beat.
C-SPAN is worth checking out, to see them in action.
John
>> Well <Quale's> #2 behind Dole; and I'm not sure Dole
>> wants to give up his Senate majority leadership seat.
I don't buy it. The so-called ratings before anything happens are totally
meaningless. Perfect example, in my opinion, was the entry of Ted Kennedy into
a prior primary race. Ted had no chance and it quickly became clear even to
him. It might take a little longer with Dan but the result will be the same.
Dan is a featherweight in a heavyweight game.
Dole really wants to be President a lot. But it ain't going to happen. I
don't have cable and CSPAN is the one thing that I would like to have right
now.
You did not comment on President GingerIch and his term starting January 20,
2001 <g>.
Albert,
>> I don't buy it… <<
Well that's o.k. but I don't want to get into a rumble on this political thing.
<G> Its good entertainment at best.
The Newt may or may not last, we shall see. 🙂 FWIW he's has made alot of
political enemies and its going to be real tough to keep the issues focused.
John

Ok but I cannot resist a final prediction and comment. The balanced budget
amendment has passed the House. I predict it will pass the Senate and be
ratified. That will trigger a magnitude 10 political earthquake in this country
and that WILL affect you and me and everyone else, in a number of ways.
>> I predict it will pass the Senate and be ratified. <<
O.K. Albert one earthquake coming up, epicenter – D.C. for a change. <g>
