#Color Photo Scans
2 messages in this thread
I am trying to scan some color photos on a Scanjet IIcx. The pictures, however,
come up with some "pixelization" or pixel blemishes, reminiscend of scanning
from magazine photos. I am scanning at 125 dpi, with normal sharpening and
millions of color settings. I can get rid of the pixel blemishes by converting
the picture to 256 colors , using Paintshop. The problem is that it is not in
16M colors anymore. What can I do to get rid of the "pixels" in the original
scan ?

Our WinImages product can do this for you, and very well, in addition to a
number of other touch-up level operations you will very likely find useful.
It has filters such as gaussian blur, nice for some types of aliasing; it has
"remove feature", which is _ideal_ for removal of spots – that feature
intelligently lifts blemishes off the image and replaces the affected region
with an optimum set of pixels generated by looking at the surrounding area (in
all directions). Lots of other image postprocessing you could use like
contrast, gamma, histogram equalization, color balancing, tinting,
monochrome/luma conversions, duo/tri/quad/etc tones, fills, dynamic range
control… I could go on and on. 🙂
And there are tons of special effects, too… you didn't mention any need for
such, so I'll not go into them at this point.
WinImages works in 24 bit accuracy and can creat output in a number of useful
file formats.
It's priced way down in the "grab it" range, too. If you'd like more details,
I'll be happy to provide them.
