Rob says you'll take full credit for this but one of the neatest new
features is audio! Via headsets the instructor can control who hears
him, who he hears, etc – just like the video. There's also a test
generator that's pretty slick, giving students the opportunity to
punch in their answers at a new Robotel keypad at each station – the
instructor gets immediate feedback on who answered correctly etc. He
can also ask if anyone needs more help and with a simple touch of the
keypad, any student can get special attention from the instructor.
The system has gotten 100% better – unfortunately the cost went up
considerably (don't ask, I don't know the price) Rob says that once
these are in production the older "basic" system will go down in
price.
My report on this system would give it an A+ and at least some others
agree….The training department (jerry Ford's group) is moving into a
building near the Education department in San Rafael this month. The
lab will have two of the Robotel systems.
Thanks Milt, It is great to have your first hand reviews here for all educators
to learn from. Thanks, I appreciate it.
Rob Alge of Robotel and I had brainstormed about the idea of sound and
keyboard control a few years ago so I can't take all the credit. But
I was lucky enough to find these great people at Vanier institute
while doing my first triple Tee training session for the group of
teacher trainers known as the old Quads, although some may argue
about the descriptor of "Old".<g>. Thah must be 5 years ago or more.
Time flies
I am glad to here about the Testing ability at the station. Anything
that helps us automate feedback and improve evaluation is very
welcome.
Has the wiring been reduced at all? That was a part that created a
bit of dust collection and was a pain in a big lab. Tell us more,
Tell us more?
We will have a live demo of Robotel's new multimedia audio/video
network setup in one of our CAD labs on Nov. 19th, this Friday. Most
likely we will end up buying it as well.
If you're interested in the tech details and how it worked, stick
around. I'll do a summary of the presentation and the system after
the open house demo. (I'm eager to tinker with it myself!!!)
Thanks Mark, We will all benefit. Looking forward to your review. I like their
products. I fell it really helps me deliver more material in a better way.
PAT
Pat,
I saw the demo at a show where, as you might guess, all the wiring was neatly
tucked away. Let's all get a further report from Mark when he checks it out
later this week.
