1: I am new to Compuserve and was wondering if how I may increase the speed
2: of downloading files. I am currently using an Amiga 2000HD running
3: Workbench 1.3, Baud Bandit 2.0 software, BaudBandit.device serial device
4: program by Christian Buckner, a SMART ONE 1440FX fax modem and
5: using X-Modem-1K protocal.
6: The speed at 9600 baud is 550 CPS.
7: When I log on to GENIE network I can get speeds up to 1000 CPS using
8: ZModem. Is there some other protocal on Compuserve that I can use for

Since you haven't upgraded to WB 2.1 you can't use the program AutoPilot. It is
an automated CIS navigator-type program and uses CIS B + protocol.
I'd suggest you download Backtalk from the Communications library here in
Amigauser. It will use the B+ protocol and works with WB 1.3.
There are a couple other terminal programs in the library that support both WB
1.3 and the XPR protocol libraries, one of which is CIS B+.

We're glad to have you with us on CompuServe.
The first thing you need to do to speed up downloads is to change to B or
B+ protocol. It is the fastest and most accurate you can use here.
X-Modem is the oldest, slowest, and most troublesome. I think Baud Bandit
will support B protocols.
If you can update your system to 2.04 or 2.1, then you can use AutoPilot,
an automated program for CompuServe that outdoes any other off-line reader
I've seen for any network. You'll find a demo of it in AmigaVendor,
Library 9, AP.LHA. But it won't run under 1.3. You'll do yourself a BIG
favor if you do update your machine. 2.1 is a tremendous improvement over
1.3 in many ways, and much of the newer software just won't run under the
1.x versions.
