#amax/picasso problems

I've finally gotten Picasso II to work to my satisfaction with my Amiga 3000.
now however, my Amax II+ screen will not show up at all. 🙁 all that appears is
a tiny bar (about 1cm) near the bottom of the screen, that is (i guess) my Amax
II+ screen scrunched into 1 cm. when i run the amax startup program, i have the
Picasso II change screen cx change the screen to NTSC:HighResLaced which is
what it was before I put the Picasso II in. I also have the video mode in
video prefs of the amax ii+ startup set to NTSC:HighResLaced and it should open
a screen that is 640×400.
any suggestions?

The easiest way is to have the amiga in an amiga screenmode (via prefs)
before starting Amax. (NTSC laced or whatever) This works fine on my
machine. *I* can't get the silly thing to *boot* in an Amiga mode, it
only works if I boot in Picasso mode. Still haven't figured that out. .

Yep, I found have to manaully set the screen mode pref to NTSC for the
Amax a few sierra games. i had to put it in my tools menu because i
was tired of digging through the draws all the time. 🙂 i'll have to
get around to writing a script for it, since i have to switch back &
forth to use a few programs.
I'm hoping that Amax 4 will solve a lot of these problems. Just got the
upgrade notice today, sure *looks* good- and the price is right.

Well, it's pretty long, but some of the features are:
1. Uses 32 bit system 7 QuickDraw to display monochrome – 24 bit color
with the 128 K ROMS
2. Supports Picasso II, Retina, EGS boards, among others
3. 32 bit clean memory manager that addresses 2Gb of ram, no MMU needed
4. *Multitasks* w/ the Amiga and uses standard Amiga device drivers.
Including Floppies, Hard Drives, Serial and Parallel ports. Can
address Mac SCSI devices through "your own SCSI controller"
5. Supports Mac stereo sound
6. Text cut and paste between Amiga and Mac clipboards.
7. Requires 68020 or better processor, and system 7.0 or 7.1
This is supposed to be available "in late November".

Oh yeah, almost forgot- This is available as an upgrade to the current
AMax II+ board (one or more chips, and software) so you don't need a new
board.

It "multitasks with AmigaDOS and Amiga applications", so it sure sounds
like it is an Amiga task. Ditto the use of "standard Amiga system device
drivers".

What's the "chip replacement" supposed to be? i just had the case off this
afternoon, but i can not remember if i saw an socketed chips on the amax ii+
board or not. i suppose i could get out the old soldering iron again if i had
to.
how big is the software going to be?

Something like a GAL, I believe. Don't know what chip it is, and I have
no idea on the size of the software. I'll make room however large it is!

Yep, i am also more than willing to squeeze the software onto my hard drive. 🙂
i was impressed with the way the Amax ][+ software only took two 880k floopies
and i hope they do not go the way of the ibm heads with disk after disk after
disk…. 🙂

I have just received the upgrade offer from ReadySoft. the 120 dollar
upgrade offer for A=Max II Plus owners makes no specific mention of
chips. It just refers to a Color Upgrade Kit. What is interesting is
that all of these super new features are apparently available with
the existing 128k Mac roms. No need to go out and buy the newer,
bigger, ones.

I just received by mail today (perhaps you did also) that an
AMaxIIplus COLOR update is available to us owners of AMaxIIPlus for
$119 and it specifically says it will work in millions of colors with
Picasso, Retina etc. This may turn out to solve this problem (it
says it needs WB2.1, not 3.0.) Is there anyone out there who has
seen this thing? I won't be able to resist getting AMax color for
that price.
