#*.IPG file format

Just purchased a new book about CorelDraw & other Corel programs that came with
a CD. There's lots of stuff on here including many graphic files in the IPG
format.
What is IPG?
When I try to open/load/import I get an error msg saying Corel doesn't
understand format. All help so I can understand format is appreciated.

I misread the file extension…got to get that new monitor in…
it was *.jpg not *.ipg.
Still can't read 'em anyway.

JPG is a compression standard. Draw! is supposed to support this and
has an import filter for it–we are talking Draw! 4 here, no?
Photopaint also supports .JPG and so do the other major bitmap
programs.

Yes, I thought I tried the import filter but didn't have much luck. I found I
have very old drivers for the CD drive. Going to update ASAP. I tried so many
new things the day I was messing around with this particular CD I may not have
selected the proper filter, will try again.

Yes I put my CIS address in the book and many folks have foud me that way
already. Prentice Hall has also opened their own forum for discussing our book
and other PH titles. Just jump over to PHCP.

Are you sure that is IPG and not JPG? It could be they are in a flavor of JPEG
that Corel doesn't handle correctly. I know several of the photos on the CD in
my book cannot be read into Corel because they use the QuickTime JPEG
compression that Corel doesn't support. We are talking to Corel about fixing
this.

Yes, it is your book (rather CD). I have just begun to read the book (I'm one
of those guys that starts at page 1 and goes to the end). I did take a few
minutes to look up some areas that I have interest in first as well as take a
peak at the files on the CD.
I don't recall the file structure but I the one directory has several images in
it and I thought they were all IPG. Possible I misread them. I double check.
What ever they are they do not open/import, etc. in Draw or PhotoPaint.
BTW, I do like the book so far.

You can not "Open…" other than Draw! format documents. If you choose
to "Import…" an image, you must first choose the proper extender from the
list box under the directory listing in the Import… Dialog Box.

I know, the reference was to indicate I tried all options in both Draw and
Paint.

If the jpeg files aren't importing then what is happening – are you getting any
error messages? Where do these files come from – what app?

Will try this again today. I error msg I got was "Can't Understand File" or
something like that.

Some of the JPEG files on the book were compressed using Apple's QuickTime
version of JPEG which is not supported by Draw, PPaint, PhotoShop or
PhotoStyler. Rus should have a copy of the book any day now and hopefully you
can find a way to support this flavor of JPEG. The unreadables are in the
CANTRELL subdirectory on the CD.

Some of the JPEG files were compressed using Apple's QuickTime version of JPEG
which Corel does not support. I am working with the publisher to try and find a
way to distribute something which will convert the files. Glad you like it.

Keep me on a list to inform when/how I can use the .JPG files.
From the files I have read on the CD there is a lot here I can use…
always good to know I can get my money's worth.
