#Miro dc1tv & Premiere

I have several questions that I hope I can get some help on. I am trying to
tweak my system which consists of:
Miro video dc1tv, Pentium 90 PCI bus, 16 meg ram, Western Digital 1 gig ide,
Micropolis 1936av 3 gig, Adaptec 2940 scsi 2 controller.
Here are the questions:
1. I get a rolling line on my TV screen when I output video. (I am using the
s-video out of Miro board going to a JVC S-VHS VCR.) How can I get rid of that?
2. The HDSPEED utility from Miro says that the speed on my Micropolis is around
2.5 meg, but the documentation on my drive says that there should be a minimum
of 3.2 meg sustained. How reliable is HDSPEED? Could there be a problem with my
drive or the way it is formatted? (Two 1.5 gig partitions)
3. When using Windows for Workgroups, should I enable 32 bit file and disk
access for the Micropolis? I think Adaptec provided drivers for this.
4. When using Adobe Premiere 4.0 I get some heavy pixalization when I use the
Print to video option. What are the optimum settings for capture on a system
like mine?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm fairly new at this and I'm looking for
some words of wisdom from some experienced users. Any help would be greatly
appreciated!!

Sorry not to be the one to be able to answer your questions… but I'm
desperately searching for info on putting together a Premiere system, Windows
vers.
Here are a few questions if you can take time to answer them:
Does Premiere work well for you?? Bugs??
Is your drive space adequate?? IDE is fast enough??
What sound card have you installed??
What video card havve you installed??
Is your output full screen?? Do you digitize as 60 fields/sec?
How much did it cost to get your system all setup??
Any other comments you can think of would be appreciated

So far 4.0 has worked well for me. No problems yet. The transitions and effects
are incredible. I think it takes some time to totally learn the program. Adobe
has a demo video reel available.

I have a 1 gig ide that I use for software (Windows, Premiere, etc…) and I
have a 3 gig SCSI drive that is faster than my ide. My 3 gig is a Micropolis
1936 AV SCSI2 made for audio/video.

I have a Pro Audio Spectrum 16 and co far I have had no sync problems. I would
like to get a Turtle Beach sound card because they do not use DMAs, no sync
problems at all!! They are expensive though ($300-$400)

I have a Diamond Stealth 64 with 2 meg of dram. It doesn't have any hardware to
assist in full motion video scaling. I usually don't pay attention to whats on
my vga monitor. I judge from the s-video output of the miro board.

I output full screen from the s-video out of the miro board. The miro board is
connected to a JVC S-VHS VCR, connected to a TV. I use the 29.97 NTSC standard
setting in Premiere.

My system costs about $5,000 and I'm still adding to it. Depending on what you
want to do you could spend more or less. What would you like to do with video?
I am still fairly new at this, but I'll be glad to help you when I can….

I have a message out to Nick Schlott of Adobe for info, but your
feedback is even more important because its real world use.
I'm a video free-lancer and have worked a little with a friend's
Premiere/Quadra840 combo. Premiere is wonderful!! I've worked on the Amiga,
whcih I love, but its a dying machine. I have a 386 which I use to connect to
Cserve. I've thougth of replacing the board with a 486DX 66… relatively
cheap. But I'm new to the Dos/WIN world so get klutzy around IRQs, dma's, etc.
The Amiga is SCSI and plug & play…
Is your machine a 486 or Pentium?? How much Ram?? What do you think is
the workable minimum? I take it that your video card has to squeeze the
picture real time in order to use the clip window on your VGA (rather than your
NTSC monitor that you output Y/C to)
I want to use it off-line to create edit lists. I also would like to
be able to output video at the maximum quality of the system to tape.. have you
had any problems with frame drop-out?? when going to tape.
Is it a problem to have both IDE and SCSI going at once. Installation
hard? or did your machine come that way?
What was the price on your video card??
Did you buy in through a dealer or go mail order?
I also want to go directly to CD ROM (I'm ready to be rid of tape).
Premiere looks to be the ideal way to do that. Do you have any interest that
way??
By the way, I live in Austin and have old video friends there in
Houston at SWAMP (Southwest Alternate Media Project).
It'd be great to stay in touch, I'm going to move on this one way or
another very soon and I suspect that means it'd be good to trade info.

Michael,
Realized as I read this again that video cards on PCs are different
than the digitzation/NTSCdisplay board (the Miro). On my Amiga that separation
doesn't exist ince video is integral, only the digitizaton board is added.
Are you happy with the Miro?? transparent with Premiere? Do you
digitize full screen or use 240x? to save disk space and increase speed. Do
you know what th alternatives are in cards? Price range / capability.
