I'm uploading a GIF file (640×480) called SYMB.GIF with three sample
symbols that could be used in all forms of documentation to indicate
the reader to the subject matter and degree of difficulty.
The symbols should be standard, easy to print and copy on all forms
of documentation, and clear in their content.
The one complaint I overheard most at Autodesk Univ. was that people
weren't sure of the difficulty of the courses they had signed up for
and would have taken other sessions had they known otherwise.
Download the file and let's discuss the merits of the idea.

The symbols are a great idea but only a solution to part of the problem… The
challenge is identifying the concepts that are intro, inter. or adv. and
getting the presenters to agree and use the criteria… How can we do this????

Since this sort of looks like a continuing thread on Adesk U. I'd
like to offer up some comments on presenting all things for all
people for one week.
First – I think an early flier to participants asking input about the
kinds of classes they would like to see next year would enhance
planning.
Second – Since participants have to make such a limited choice from
the number of available classes, it would be a good idea to recommend
sequels for some classes.
Third – I would like to see recognition for all classes that were
popular last year (high-lighting?) in addition to the award for most
popular instructor.
Fourth – It seems to me that more Q&A on-going Open Forums would help
everyone communicate.
I have some other thoughts but my typingattentionspan
isgettinglimited.

You caught me trying to slip in a quick one just to keep the idea of symbols
"in the news".
I agree that the subjectivity of what is Basic, Adv. etc. is going to
be difficult and it must be kept simple and concise or the solution
becomes more confusing than the problem.
With AutoCAD material it could conform to what is "officially"
included in the curriculum outlines for Basic, etc.. With 3DS it
becomes a little more difficult because there is no history to base
judgement on.
Let's start by gathering catagories that should be covered by the
three letter designation, i.e., CAD,3DS,AME and determine if more
than three levels of difficulty will be needed. A diamond, double
diamond for more advanced, for example.
Everyone send me short! suggestions and I'll keep track.

Ted, FWIW: I suggest at least the following categories.. Basic, Adv, AME, ADE,
DDE(Windoze), Applications(3rd Parties) verticles.
