I was wondering if anyone might know the dates for the upcoming WOCA
in Toronto? Haven't really heard anything about it and wanted to plan
ahead… Mabye I won't Have to fight a nasty storm again this
year… Yea right… :>

I'll be there, probably on Friday. Have you received any mailings about
it? Are there any big announcements that are scheduled that you know of
(aside from CD32)?

No, no mailings or anything, and I don't have any idea what will be
there.
Had Amigas since day 1, and C64's way before that, but I've never been to
one of these things. Just taking a trek out of the boonies for a few
days.

I've only had Amigas for three & a half years now and I've been to two
shows. Some people call me a fanatic so I guess they are right. They are
great fun but it's better if you have money to spend. This year I'm going
only as an observer, shall we say. 8^)
Well, I suspose it will be CD32 etc. There may be a few third party items
of interest but I don't think C= will have much.
Anyway, see ya there, maybe.

I'll be there either on Friday or Saturday (but hopefully leaving the kids
at home). Are you local, or coming in the for big event?

We're driving in from the opposite side of Lake Erie (Oak Harbor, Ohio,
between Toledo and Cleveland). The kids are 11 and 13, and probably will
enjoy the show as much as we will.
If you're local, do you have any other sights to recommend? Can't stay at
WOCA all the time, we'd run out of money too quick! 8{)

You want to do the town? There's lots to do and see, depends on what
your interests are.
Historical stuff: Black Creek Pioneer Village, Old Fort York, Casa
Loma.
If you like paroramic views, there's the CN Tower (tallest
freestanding structure in the world) with revolving restaurant and
observation deck. The Tour of the Universe is a kind of laser-light
show which runs at the bottom of the Tower and is very popular, I'm
told, with your children's comtemporaries. The CN Tower is right
beside the SkyDome where the Blue Jays play.
The Royal Ontario Museum is always interesting, though no special
shows on right now. Right beside it is the McLaughlin Planetarium
which has a number of shows through the day.
There are two race tracks if you're into the ponies. There's a very
good zoo on the east side of town. And the Ontario Science Centre is
guaranteed to amuse children of all ages.
Theatre: Miss Saigon and Phantom of the Opera are both playing as well
as a score of events at smaller venues. There's a Second City here if
you're into laughs.
Shopping: The Eaton Centre, downtown on Yonge Street is a block-long,
galleria-style retail heaven.
Or if you tastes are more rustically inclined, you can drive north a few
miles and have afternoon tea beside the Credit River.
If you let me know the kind of things you and your family like to do,
I can probably point you in the right direction.

Wow, what a nice review. You should represent the city!
My wife's a travel agent (just starting out her own business), and had a
little on a few fo the things you mentioned, but this really helps.
I get to go to WOCA, the wife shops occasionally (!), my son wants to see
around the SkyDome, and my daughter really likes horses, so I think I have
some idea what we are going to do. Can minors go to the tracks in
Ontario? The science centre sounds interesting, too.
We may try to get tickets to the Phantom. I hear the show is pretty
amazing.
So, can you suggest any nice resturaunts in the downtown or convention
centre areas? Maybe something French or Italian?

DO go see the Phantom, here in L.A. it was a fabulous show. IMHO, the
music, the stage effects, the singing were all superb! Don't miss out,
it's a good time for all.

Yes, minors can go to the track here, but they have to be 18+ to wager. I
don't know if this is still the case, but a few years ago when we were at
the track, I looked for a pay phone to check in with our babysitter — and
found that no such thing exists at a race course! With the prevalence of
cellular phones, I should think such security is pretty well moot
nowadays.
I'm actually not sure where WOCA is being held this year. It's been at
the International Centre by the airport for years, but I've a vague
notion they've changed it to a hotel. Perhaps you know. Anyway,
Greenwood Race Track is quite close to the airport. I'm not sure when
they're running (they usually change back and forth between a few
local tracks), but I can find out if they're running there during
WOCA.
The Science Centre is great. You'll need your car to get there, but
it's all highway driving and pretty direct. Exhibits cover a broad
range of topics: laser display, space (mockup of the space shuttle),
food, energy conservation, radio/TV through the ages, ships, you name
it. (One of the biggest faves is the static elecrticity exhibit,
where you touch something-or-other and all your hair stands on end.)
Can highly reccommend the Phantom. It's been around for a while now,
so I assume it won't be too difficult to get tickets. (Pantages
Theatre: (416)323-6600) About a month ago Showboat opened and is
very good by all accounts. Haven't seen it myself, but various family
members have and were very impressed. It caused a stir prior to
opening and may well still have picketers at performances. Some
people objected to the way blacks are portrayed in the story and
there was a whole hoo-hah about it.
Restaurants: Tons of them about. Let me find out just where the show
is, and tell me where you'll be staying. Then I can suggest some
French & Italian places that are in those areas.
WOC will be held at the International Centre as usual (unless they
changed the location at the last moment). The hours are 10-6 on
Friday & Saturday and 10-5 on Sunday (Dec.3-5). For more info call

yes, I realize now what I saw was mention of the show hotel, the
Radisson, and that faked me out, thought they had moved the show
itself. So will be trooping up to the usual spot, either Friday or
Saturday. BTW, who's Karen Jewell? Have they got an outside firm
organizing the show? Looking forward to great things at the show …

I have spoken with Karen but I actually don't know what her title is. I
called the International Centre back in September and they gave me her
name. From what I gather, the company takes care of all WOC except those
in Europe. I think all they do is WOC but they are separate from C=, from
what I can gather.

Karen is the owner of the company that holds the World of Commodore shows. It
is a management company with no ties to Commodore. CBM doesn't put on its own
shows. Commodore participates in all of Karen's shows. (2 in the US, 1 in
Canada, 1 in Australia.)

I'll be there Friday, Saturday and maybe Sunday. It feels wicked
blowing a vacation day on WOCA, but you only live once, right? And
I'd probably lose my Nerds Of North America membership if anyone
heard I stayed at work that day. <g> I hope everyone will be wearing
some kind of CompuServe identification? And nothing silly like "Let's
wear red rubber bands wound tight around our ring finger" — too hard
to see in the WOCA aisle traffic jam, and besides, gangrene just
isn't my trip. I'll probably affix myself with a "CompuServe member"
name tag.
Great, maybe we'll see you there. I might do the same with the name
tag. Nerds of North America? As in "Animnerd"? (I heard that one
recently. Hey, the guy said it with respect!) 8{) (Does that beat
