#Faster Modem
9 messages in this thread
I need to purchase a faster modem. I am presently using a Supra 2400. My
question is, are there any available, if so do they work well with the Amiga
and would they give me problems with ATalk 3?
I need to download large quote files from DJNS and it's taking me almost 30
min. a day at 2400.
Thanks for any help.

Lee,
I use a Practical Peripherals PM14400FXSA 14,400 Fax/Modem, on my A3000
and it has performed flawlessly. It also came with a lifetime warranty.
You can find out about Practical Peripherals products by visiting their
forum (GO PPIForum).
Thanks for the info. I'll check out their forum.

Michael,
1. Can you tell me the difference between a PM14400FXSA and a
PM14400FXMT?
2. What Amiga software does one use for the Practical Peripherals' fax
use?
3. I want a faster modem and am trying to decide between a PM14400FXMT, a
USRobotics Sportster and a SupraFaxModem…any input you might have would
be appreciated.

Both units are both class I and class II fax compatible, which means that
you can use GPFax (generic version). For details on the specs of each, GO
PPIFORUM and look in their library… they have complete specs there for
the downloading/reading.
The FXMT has 8 LED's… the FXSA is a bit larger and in addition to the
LED's, also sports a terrific LCD display.
Lee,
I've seen 14.4K FAX/MODEMS for sale from Microwarehouse for $99!
Egghead software is selling the INTEL 14.4K fax/modem for $149.85
Both are v.32bis v.42bis MNP5 compatible.
Microwarehouse 800-367-7080
Egghead 800 EGG-HEAD
Since they're Hayes compatible they'll work with your Amiga.
Chris
Thanks for your help. I'll investigate the opportunities.

I have a SupraFaxModem V.32bis that runs at 14400. It works great.
One of the features I like is an LED display that shows your
connection speed. This easily identifies what type of line you get.
Hello,
Is this an internal modem? If so it sounds like what I'm looking for.
Thanks Lee
